📣 Reminder from our friends at Spence Clarke - If you opted to pay your 2025 income tax in two instalments, the second payment is due on 5 November.
💶 If the payment is collected by direct debit, make sure there are sufficient funds in your bank account. Otherwise, you will need to arrange payment before the deadline.
⚠ Missing the deadline can result in penalties and interest being charged by the Spanish Tax Office. Depending on the circumstances, late payment can result in a penalty of up to 20% of the outstanding amount, in addition to interest accruing until the tax is paid in full.

This year’s United Nationalities of Marbella Summit organized by Nicole King will be a free information event and fair which offers practical help for expat residents of the Costa del Sol and will be a really interesting and useful event.

This free open day is based around the important question – Who would you call when things go wrong?

Unfortunately many expats do not know what help is available or even who to ask.

The United Nationalities of Marbella Summit is inviting residents to find out before a crisis happens. On Tuesday 3 November 2026, local authorities, emergency services, charities and support organisations will come together at Hard Rock Hotel Marbella to explain what help is available and how to reach it.

Find out more here - www.united-marbella.com and on the United Nationalities of Marbella Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/u.n.marbella/

👏 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀: 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗻𝘀 & 𝗗𝗲́𝗰𝗼𝗿

🎈Kathleen prides herself on bringing balloon magic and event styling to the Costa del Sol.

🎈We used her for William’s superhero party last year and Ben’s Hot Wheels party this summer and loved what she did!

🎈Originally from Scotland, but based here on the coast, she creates beautiful balloon displays, backdrops and event décor for birthdays, celebrations, weddings and special occasions. She loves taking an idea and turning it into something really personal for each client.

🎈So, if you have a celebration coming up and are looking for something a little different, creative and beautifully put together, she’d love to help. We’d highly recommend her.

🎃 Halloween is not just for the little ones!
👻 We shared some great kids’ event earlier this week, so today, we wanted to give a shout out to Age Concern Marbella & San Pedro and their Halloween lunch.
👹 It’s taking place next Thursday at G-Wine Marbella and is a great way to socialize and raise some money for this excellent charity.
😍 There’s a 3-course meal, and a Halloween Quiz, and they are a very welcoming group. All the details in the poster below. ⬇️

✈️ Before you move to Spain, you need to learn about what differences to expect from Spanish tax compared to the UK, as well as the cost of living you should expect.

⚠️ If you’re retiring to Spain, you should know that Spanish personal pensions offer limited tax relief. Contributions are capped at €1,500 annually if it is a personal pension, or up to €8,500 in some circumstances in an employer-based scheme, where the employer also contributes. Alternative pension planning options should be considered, especially if you plan to stay in Spain for only a few years.

However, there are some interesting tax breaks for over 65s to know about.

👍 People over 65 can sell assets or investments up to €240,000 without capital gains tax in one tax year, provided proceeds are reinvested into a life annuity.

👍 Selling your primary residence after age 65 incurs no capital gains tax, even without purchasing another property, subject to conditions.

🎃 Halloween may not be a Spanish holiday, but don’t worry, there are plenty of activities happening that kids can get involved in along the Costa del Sol and beyond!

⬇️ Here are just a few highlights to look forward to at the end of the month –

🎃 The boutique hotel Palacio Suites Marbella is hosting a kids' Halloween party with LEMONFACE raising money for the charity Mejor en Familia

🎃 Squared Stage School are holding a MESSY PLAY HALLOWEEN PARTY – this promises to be a fun-filled Halloween morning packed with spooky activities and lots of messy, creative fun!

🎃 ScandiCandy in San Pedro is organizing a Halloween Pumpkin Party on the 25th, 30th and 31st of October, with crafts and treats to enjoy.

🎃 Circus Circus in Elviria is holding a kids Halloween party which promises to be an afternoon packed with music, dancing, and non-stop fun.

🎃 For more events like these, follow the "Soto Parents Group" on Facebook, they have a Halloween thread with all the events shared on there, and it’s a fantastic source of information for kids’ events throughout the year.

My Spectrum IFA colleague in Valencia Matthew Green has written a great article about becoming tax resident in Spain and how this impacts your investments.

This article answers the questions –

❓ Does my investment have to move to Spain?
❓ What about investments from my home country?
❓ Should I sell my investments before becoming Spanish resident?
❓ What about ISAs and other tax-efficient arrangements?
❓ What should I review after becoming a Spanish resident?

Please reach out if you’re on the Costa del Sol and would like to discuss your investments before moving here, or before becoming tax resident.

𝗔: Since the changes in the Inheritance tax rules, as you have been out of the UK for so long, you will no longer be subject to UK Inheritance Tax on your Worldwide assets. But you will be subject to tax on any UK based assets, which includes your cash in the bank.

If you want to avoid UK probate being needed, and keep the cash away from HMRC, then it would make sense to move the money to (for example) a Spanish Bank. I’d recommend opening a GBP account here, so there is no need to exchange the funds into Euros. Mainly clients prefer this at the moment, as they can get a better rate of interest in GBP than Euros.

Please contact me if you need any advice on moving your money, or investment options.

🏋️‍♂️ Top Tips for Expats Moving to Spain – Join Your Municipal Gym

🏊‍♂️ If you can get by in Spanish, municipal gyms, pools and sports centres are an amazing option, to keep active for significantly less than private gyms. It’s also good for integration with the community and improving your Spanish.

🏋️‍♂️If you’re registered on the padron in the Marbella area, you can work out twice a week for just over €12 per month, 3 days a week for just over €14 per month and 5 days a week for just over €18 per month. Amazing value!

⚽ There are loads of great gyms, sports centres, activities and classes and you can check it out here, or contact Delegación Deportes Marbella
