Did you know that today barrel ageing is the fruit of a fluke that changed everything?

Great wine-loving cultures such as the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans transported wine in amphorae, which often broke. However, the Gauls came up with a solution.
They were the first to create the barrels, which were much more resistant. But in the 13th century, the French realised the greatness of these wooden barrels when they experienced the colour, aroma and taste that they gave to wine. And today we still enjoy this wonderful idea!
