🇬🇧 British or Irish Passport for a Child Born in Spain?
If your child was born in Spain and you are applying for their first British or Irish passport, you may need an English translation of their Spanish birth certificate.
A few important things to know:
📄 British passport applications: make sure you obtain the Certificación Literal de Nacimiento (full Spanish birth certificate), rather than a simple birth extract.
🇬🇧 Documents submitted to HM Passport Office that are not in English or Welsh generally need to be accompanied by an appropriate translation.
🇮🇪 For an Irish passport application, a full civil birth certificate showing the parents' details may be required. Documents not in English or Irish must be accompanied by a certified translation.
👶 Your child's nationality and the documents required will depend on your individual circumstances, so always check the current requirements with the relevant passport authority.
