SWORN TRANSLATIONS IN SPAIN: YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Moving to Spain, applying for residency or getting married? If you’ve been asked for a “traducción jurada”, you probably have a few questions. Here are some simple answers.
❓ What is a sworn translation?
An official translation certified by a sworn translator appointed by Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
❓ Do I need one?
You may need one when submitting foreign documents to Spanish authorities. Check the requirements for your specific application before ordering.
❓ Which documents?
Common examples include birth and marriage certificates, criminal record certificates, academic qualifications and documents supporting visa or residency applications.
❓ Can I translate it myself?
If a sworn translation is required, your own translation—or an automatic translation—won’t replace it, even if your Spanish is excellent.
❓ Can I send a scan?
A clear, complete scan is usually enough to prepare the translation. Include every page, stamp and any apostille. The receiving authority may still require the original document separately.
❓ Do I need an apostille?
It depends on the document, its country of origin and the procedure. An apostille and a sworn translation serve different purposes; one does not replace the other. Check first and, if an apostille is required, obtain it before translation.
❓ Can I receive it digitally?
Sworn translations can be issued with a compliant electronic signature. Check whether the receiving office requires a digital document or a paper version.
❓ How much does it cost?
The price depends on the length, complexity and urgency. Send your documents for a quote before confirming your order.
❓ How long does it take?
Timing depends on the documents and availability. Share your deadline from the start, especially if you already have an appointment.
❓ Where do I start?
Tell me which documents you need translated, where you’ll submit them and your deadline. I’ll confirm the price and delivery time.
