m the research in the field of protein expression generated by the scientific cofounders and the financial support of private investors. The mission of Algenex is the development of new biotechnological tools more versatile and powerful to produce high add-value molecules to both human and animal health at affordable costs. Algenex has developed two own disruptive platforms within baculovirus expression system (BEVS) to achieve these goals:
Top-Bac®: A proprietary expression cassette that improves the quality of protein produced and increases its production 200-800% over conventional BEVS. This platform shows very interesting profile to innovative therapeutics, vaccines generation, in particular VLPs-based vaccines, structural biology studies and high throughput screening. IBES®: Based on the use of insect larvae as disposable, living bioreactors that, when combined with Top-Bac, lead to unprecedented yields of production for a baculovirus-based expression system. This technology allows us for:
- Rapid and linear scaling-up process
- Increasing success with difficult-to-express proteins
- Dramatically reducing capital investment with respect to conventional bioreactor-based technologies
This product has been positioned to efficiently supply high value protein in non-GMP conditions to customers in the fields of diagnostics, biosensors, biological reagents, etc. Algenex business model is based in the close understanding of the customer needs to provide ready solutions from our technology. Algenex offers to our customer:
- Non-exclusive license of technology. Algenex offers different ways for getting started, including Feasibility studies
- BEVS optimization and product development, professional advice and follow up
- Supply of raw material from insects

ALGENEX and BIOKIT sign a non-exclusive license agreement for IBES® technology to make faster high quality recombinant proteins for Diagnostics.
ALGENEX and BIOKIT are proud to announce the closing of a worldwide, non-exclusive license agreement for BIOKIT to use IBES® technology in its next generation in vitro diagnostics for human use. Under the license agreement, BIOKIT will produce a broad range of recombinant proteins. For many years BIOKIT has been operating advanced biotechnology capabilities and has been manufacturing native and recombinant proteins for internal use as well as for supply to the main diagnostics companies worldwide.

ALGENEX is proud to announce that it is increasing its production in Madrid to support its licensee, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica (BIV), with sufficient virus recombinant antigens, a key raw material for use in SVANOVIR® ASFV-Ab, a kit for the serological diagnosis of African Swine Fever.
Boehringer Ingelheim Svanova, a fully owned subsidiary of BIV, is a leading diagnostics company for animal health and was successful in winning major tenders for the Russian and the Chinese market. ALGENEX and Boehringer Ingelheim Svanova collaborate since 2009 on the design, development and production of this highly relevant diagnostic kit for the swine industry. SVANOVIR® ASFV-Ab was first launched in November 2011 and sales have been growing steadily.
As all recombinant proteins are made with the proprietary IBES® technology, expanding the supply of these products is also a major commercial validation for the added value ALGENEX is bringing to its customers.

As part of its corporate strategy to supply its Top-Bac® and IBES® technology directly to the high quality protein market, ALGENEX, has created the position of Head of Global Business Development and is happy to announce to have assigned Roberto Clemente PhD MBA for this new position.
ALGENEX has generated during the last 5 years a strong package of intellectual property and several commercial leads with its technology. The second phase of ALGENEX corporate strategy is now to bring in 2013 its Top-Bac® and IBES® technology as licenses to the EU and US market.
Roberto Clemente has a proven track record in developing strategic businesses for and with biotech companies.
