At first, some things in Spain seem... a little strange.

Dinner at 10 PM?

A walk after eating?

Three coffees a day?

Grandparents everywhere with their grandchildren?

“Let’s have one drink”... and you’re still there two hours later?

But after a while...
..you stop questioning it.

You start eating later.

You enjoy evening walks.

You spend more time outside.

You realise people aren’t rushing through life.

They’re enjoying it.

And that’s when Spain starts to make sense.

Sometimes, it’s not about changing countries.

It’s about changing your pace of life

👇 Which one took you the longest to get used to?

Most people focus on the obvious things when buying a home:

The price.
The view.
The location.

But in Spain, there’s another detail that can make a huge difference...

The orientation of the property.

A south-facing terrace can be perfect in winter...

…but very hot in the middle of summer.

A north-facing home may stay cooler in August...

…but receive less natural light during the colder months.

There isn’t one “perfect” orientation.

It depends on your lifestyle:

Do you love having breakfast in the sun?

Do you prefer a cooler terrace in the afternoon?

Will you live there all year round or only during the holidays?

These are the little details that many buyers don’t think about until they’ve already moved in.

And sometimes...

they make a bigger difference than the sea view.

👇 Which would you choose: morning sun or afternoon sun?

If you’ve just moved to Spain, you’ll hear this word a lot:

Persianas

They’re the roll-down blinds you’ll find on almost every home in Spain.

They help keep the house cooler in summer and warmer in winter, block out the light, and provide extra privacy.

It’s one of those little Spanish inventions that most people don’t think about...
..until they spend their first August here. ☀️

Do homes in your country have persianas, or is this completely new to you?

If you've spent some time in Spain, you've probably noticed something:

Many people often choose to meet outside the home rather than inviting everyone over.

It's not because they don't enjoy hosting family and friends.

It's simply because cafés, restaurants and terraces are such an important part of everyday life.

No one has to spend hours cleaning the house.

No one has to cook for a large group.

No one worries about whether everything is perfect.

Instead, everyone meets at a favourite café or terrace, orders a coffee or a few tapas, and before they know it, three or four hours have flown by.

Of course, Spanish families also gather at home—especially for celebrations and holidays—but meeting out for coffee, lunch or dinner is a big part of the country's social culture.

What about you?

🏡 Do you prefer inviting people to your home...
☀️ ...or meeting on a terrace?

If someone told you there was a town where thousands of people throw tomatoes at each other every summer...
..you'd probably think they were joking.

But it's true.

Every year, the small town of Buñol, in the province of Valencia, hosts La Tomatina, one of Spain's most famous festivals 🍅

For about one hour, the streets turn completely red as participants throw over 100 tonnes of tomatoes at each other.

It might look like chaos...

But the event is highly organised, with strict safety rules and a long tradition that dates back to the 1940s.

It's one of those experiences that sounds completely crazy...
..until you see it for yourself.

Note! The tomatoes used are not suitable for consumption. They are agricultural surplus, overripe, or do not meet the quality standards required for sale, so the festival does not use tomatoes that would otherwise be eaten.

Spain is full of traditions that surprise people from all over the world.

Would you join La Tomatina... or stay well away from it?

5 things that can get you fined in Spain… and many foreigners have no idea! 🚨

Whether you're visiting Spain or living here, these rules might surprise you:

1️⃣ Not picking up after your dog 🐕
Fines can reach several hundred euros, depending on the municipality.
2️⃣ Driving in flip-flops if they affect your control of the vehicle 🚗
Flip-flops aren't specifically illegal, but if they compromise safe driving, you can be fined.
3️⃣ Making excessive noise late at night 🔇
Especially in residential areas, where local noise regulations are strictly enforced.
4️⃣ Smoking on smoke-free beaches 🚭🏖️
Many beaches across Spain have banned smoking, with fines for those who ignore the rules.
5️⃣ Feeding pigeons in certain cities 🕊️
Some municipalities prohibit it to help protect public health and keep streets clean.
💬 Did you know all of these? Which one surprised you the most?

In many countries, people meet at home.

In Spain, people meet at the bar.

But BEFORE renting or buying, research the schools and the areas carefully.
Because if you choose the wrong area first…
you could end up spending up to an hour every day on the school run 🚗
