Smiles all around this morning to end the week!

One client has been approved for their right to free healthcare in Andalucía as a permanent resident and Teresa has finally completed all of her paperwork after moving to Spain, claiming residency and exchanging her driver's license!

Now all that's left is for the physical card to arrive through the post over the next month or two.

If you need to exchange your driver's license in the Málaga region, they're working very fast right now - it's a great time to apply! This may start to be affected by the mass regularisation applications by summer, so don't drag your heels if you're at the right time to apply now.

Lastly, please note that TIE appointment availability has dropped off a cliff over the last 10 days. My list of appointments to get is ever-growing. If your TIE is coming up for renewal, GET IN TOUCH NOW and get on my list. I don't anticipate this easing for at least the next 3 months, but we can all pray.

If you didn't think you needed assistance getting your residency but you also don't speak Spanish fluently well here is your sign.

We had a successful morning getting residency in Spain as an EU citizen today BUT during the purchase of their home, the national police had registered them as a UK national, even though they had an EU passport.

It took lots of chatting and sweet talking (in Spanish) to explain the situation, something the client could not have done if I hadn't been there.

Yes, you can do these processes yourself and most of the time, they should be straight forward, but they aren't always. A few months on Duolingo won't help you in those situations but someone fluent and with experience can.

As the client put it "I'm so relieved you were with me, I had no idea what she was asking. It's worth every penny for the peace of mind".

This is why I do what I do.

What if you're paying for something you don't need?

A lot of people researching the Digital Nomad Visa assume they need to get their NIE sorted first. So they start looking into consulate appointments, travel costs, service fees. It adds up fast and for many people, especially in the US, it means a very long trip just to tick one box.

That's what changes when you work with a consultant.

We submit your application using our own NIE and digital certificate under power of attorney. Your NIE gets issued automatically alongside your approval letter. That whole separate step, that whole separate cost - gone. Included in the process.

The one thing that matters: don't try to get your NIE separately at the same time. Duplicating a NIE number in Spain creates a bureaucratic problem that is genuinely complicated to fix. One application, done properly, in the right order.

That's the part having someone in your corner should protect you from.

The best time to move to Spain?

Everyone will tell you there's no perfect time to move to Spain. And honestly, they're right, you'll never feel completely ready, and waiting for the stars to align usually just means not going. At some point you have to decide and do it.

But I'd be doing you a disservice if I didn't flag something specific about summer.

July and August aren't just hot and crowded — though they are both of those things, and no, dragging your entire life through streets full of tourists in 40 degree heat is not fun.

The bigger issue is the UGE, the unit responsible for processing Digital Nomad Visa applications.

Two out of the last three summers it has had major problems — missing applications, cases going to positive administrative silence, people stuck waiting months for resolution while their plans sit in limbo.

That's not a scare tactic. That's just what's happened, and it's worth knowing before you set your moving date.
