Esta imagen representa una columna del tiempo geológico, una herramienta usada en geología y paleontología para ordenar la historia de la Tierra desde sus etapas más antiguas hasta la actualidad.

Cada franja muestra un intervalo del tiempo geológico (como Cámbrico, Jurásico o Cretácico) y los fósiles ilustrados ayudan a entender qué tipos de organismos fueron comunes en distintas épocas. Las capas inferiores representan tiempos más antiguos y las superiores tiempos más recientes, siguiendo el principio de superposición de los estratos sedimentarios.

Desde el punto de vista biológico, esta imagen resume algo fundamental: la vida no apareció “de golpe” como la conocemos hoy, sino que cambió durante millones de años. Primero dominaron organismos microscópicos y formas marinas simples, luego surgieron peces, plantas terrestres, anfibios, reptiles, dinosaurios, mamíferos y finalmente los seres humanos.

También se muestran extinciones masivas, eventos clave en la historia evolutiva. Estas crisis eliminaron muchas especies, pero también abrieron espacio para que otros grupos se diversificaran. Por eso, la biodiversidad actual es el resultado de una historia de cambios, adaptación y reemplazo a escala de “tiempo profundo”.

🦌❄️ When winter is harsh, responsibility comes first
Hunters in Lithuania are showing what sustainable wildlife management really means. Following extreme winter conditions – deep and compacted snow (up to 40–50 cm in some areas), icy crusts and very low temperatures – the Lithuanian Hunters and Anglers Association (Lietuvos medžiotojų ir žvejų draugija) has called on hunters to pause driven hunts and focus instead on animal welfare.
Under such conditions, wild animals struggle to move, save energy and reach natural food sources. Forcing them to run during driven hunts would mean a serious loss of vital energy reserves needed to survive the winter.
Instead, hunters are encouraged to:
➡️ refill and check feeding stations
➡️ monitor animal condition and movement
➡️ avoid unnecessary disturbance
➡️ spend time in nature calmly and responsibly
🌍 At the same time, it is important to remember that weather conditions differ across Europe. Each country faces different challenges, and local hunting communities are best placed to assess the situation and choose the most appropriate and responsible response for their wildlife.
🌲 Hunting has always been about more than harvest. It is about care, respect and long-term responsibility for wildlife and habitats.
Initiatives like this show that Europe’s hunters are not only managers of wildlife populations, but also guardians of animal welfare in difficult times.
