Derba Cement to build second plant
Derba Cement is going to build second cement manufacturing plant at a cost of 300 million dollars.
The company has selected the Chinese construction company, Sinoma International Engineering to build the new line.
CEO of Derba Cemenet Haile Assegidie and Han Xuefeng, Regional Marketing Director, Sinoma International Engineering, signed the agreement on Thursday November 24, 2022 at the Ministry of Mines.

Ethio telecom launches 4G LTE service in 67 towns, upgrades network in 27 towns
As part of phase-III 4G LTE service network expansion strategic plan, Ethio telecom launched 4G LTE services in 67 towns and upgraded 4G LTE network expansions in 27 towns.
The 4G LTE service, which started in Addis Abeba two years ago, is now available in 181 towns and cities across Ethiopia.
“We are also committed to upgrading and expanding 4G LTE service to meet the ever-growing data demands of our esteemed customers and based on the high data traffic/ usage in the time ahead,” Ethio telecom said in a statement.

U.S. Embassy launches Academy for Women Entrepreneurs 2022
In observance of International Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Fiona Evans, launched a year-long nationwide project for the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) 2022 in the U.S. Embassy, Addis Abeba.
In her remarks, DCM Evans highlighted the importance of partnership between the United States and Ethiopia. “Empowering women entrepreneurs benefits not only individual families, it also contributes to the Ethiopian economy overall.” The DCM invited recruits to take advantage of the targeted training to enhance their businesses and startups.
AWE is a U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs initiative that gives enterprising women from around the world the knowledge, networks, and access they need to launch and scale-up successful businesses. The Center for Accelerated Women's Economic Empowerment (CAWEE) is the organization in charge of the project in Ethiopia, and CAWEE CEO, Nigest Haile, who is also an alumna of the U.S. Embassy's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), led discussions during the event.

ATEX, a boost for intra-Africa trade
African countries should use the innovative Africa Exchange Trade Platform (ATEX) and boost digital trade in critical commodities under the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
ATEX is a digital business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) exchange platform developed by ECA and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), in collaboration with the African Union Commission and the AfCFTA Secretariat.
“ATEX will certainly avail access to essential commodities at affordable prices to African countries that look set to be hit the hardest by the global food price crisis with severe implications on economic and political stability,” Ms. Hanan Morsy, Deputy Executive Secretary and Chief Economist of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) said at the presentation of the Africa Exchange Trade Platform (ATEX) on the sidelines of COP27 at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Hosea Real Estate to transfer over 310 homes to buyers
Hosea Real Estate PLC announced Tuesday that it will transfer over 310 homes to homebuyers on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
The luxury villas including apartments constructed at Ayat 49 area, located at the recently established Lemi-Kura Sub City.
The new site dubbed “Yerer Homes Village” is named after the famous mountain.
“Construction of the homes village consumed two years and six months,” Seife Fekade, Deputy CEO of Hosea Real Estate said in a presser on Tuesday at Yerer Homes Village.
The 14 high-end apartments of Yerer Village have 4 units per floors on each G+4 building. Moreover, it consists of polished granite with metal hand rail finish on stairs and landings as well as fire extinguisher and security cameras installed on each floor.

Government retenders Ethio Telecom’s 40% stake
The Federal Government of Ethiopia today floated a tender that would enable it to partially privatize the state owned Ethio Telecom.
In a press conference held today officials of the Ministry of Finance disclosed that international firms can submit their proposals for the acquisition of 40 percent stake in Ethio Telecom in the coming 30 days.
It is to be recalled that the Ministry had floated the tender early this year but latter cancelled the bid due to the political instability that rocked the nation.

Ethiopia’s economy will expand by 7.5%: PM Abiy
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said Tuesday that Ethiopia’s economic growth is expected to expand by 7.5% in the 2022/23 fiscal year.
He responded to Members of Parliament (MPs) that the projection shows 1.1% point improvement in economic growth rate registered the previous year.
Prime Minister Abiy said: “Ethiopia’s economy held up under pressure and reached $127.6 billion demonstrating that our economy is unbreakable in front of shocks and will continue to grow.”

Gov’t seeks to boost mining sector share in Ethiopia’s GDP
The government disclosed that it has a plan to boost mining sector share in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.
Mining contributes only 1% to the GDP of Ethiopia.
“We’ve a plan to increase mining’s sector to 17% in ten years,” Takele Uma (Engineer), Minister of Mines said Thursday while the International Mining and Technology Expo (MINTEX) 2022 edition opened at the Millennium Hall.
The Expo has been officially opened by the guest of honor President Sahlework Zewde.
More than 270 Ethiopian and foreign companies are partaking on the expo.
