Zero profit tax for new investments in hospitality sector

The government has selected potential tourist attraction sites for , who can enjoy zero profit tax for five years.

The seven destinations in which will benefit from the special investment incentives are located in , , , , and of Ethiopia.

In addition to the usual tax exempted import of inputs, goods, importing duty-free , anyone who is interested to invest in these selected areas will not pay profit tax for five years.

Bank of Abyssinia (BoA) has registered massive profits, while its expenses have surged by 1.3 billion birr in the ended financial year.

The bank that has been in operation for the past 25 years has stated that its revenue for the 2019/20 financial year boosted to about 5.7 billion birr with one third increment compared with the 2018/19 financial year.

In its report that was disclosed on the general assembly held on Thursday November 19, the revenue shows an additional 1.4 billion birr earning compared with the preceding year.

The expense has also skyrocketed by 1.33 billion birr, which is a 40.6 percent increment compared with the 2018/19 financial year expense.

Suspends Partial Privatization Of Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide said the government has revoked the process of partial privatization of Ethiopian Airlines.

According to Ethiopia State Media Fanabc,The minister underlined that the cancellation of the partial privatization of the airlines is attributed to to its growing global reputation and profitability.

The |n Bankers Association, the consortium of all commercial banks, has asked the government to issue banknotes in higher denominations, including 200 and 500 Br notes.

The 0.4pc average weekly depreciation of the Birr and the increased public demand for 100 Br notes has pushed the Association to propose the issuance of higher denominations.

The Association also recommended the reissuing of new 50 and 100 Br notes, mentioning that cash worth close to 113 billion Br is roaming outside of banks, as a means of reverting the money back to the banking system.
