The Impacting Gender & Nutrition through Innovative Technical Exchange in Agriculture (IGNITE) is a technical assistance mechanism implemented by Tanager, Laterite and 60 Decibels & designed to provide technical assistance & technical assistance to African agricultural institutions. Our key service offerings include: policies, tools & plans; training & sensitization and monitoring and systems & analyses

Earlier today during the launch of the Ethiopia Gender & Nutrition, Learning and Networking Forum, Dr. Catherine Macharia-Mutie, PhD IGNITE Deputy Team Leader shared lessons learned while providing technical assistance to 20 IGNITE-supported institutions.

Some of these lessons include:
🏛 Organizational structure and strategy are critical drivers to mainstreaming gender and integrating nutrition.

👫 Gender mainstreaming & nutrition integration requires leadership buy-in as this drives the strategy at all levels of the institution

📠 Data and evidence build the case for gender and nutrition.
Importance of allocating budgets to support gender and nutrition integration.

🏘 Institutional needs are different and dynamic, hence there is no one specific approach that works and it requires a lot of flexibility

Looking at and , we see a lot of interconnectedness between sectors. For example, if children do not grow up to be healthy and strong individuals, we will not have a workforce for agriculture. The relevance of gender and nutrition thus cut across different levels, sectors and ministries.
