Summer Tips for Supporting Your Child’s Finnish Language at Home! 🌿
Summer is a great time to practice Finnish in a relaxed and fun way together! Here are some simple and enjoyable ways to support your child’s language development during the holidays:
Speak Finnish in daily life – Name everyday objects and actions ("Tämä on haarukka, mennään ulos"). Use simple sentences and repeat words.
Read books together – You can borrow picture books, easy readers, and audiobooks from the library. Ask your child questions about the story: "Mitä tässä tapahtuu?", "Mikä eläin tämä on?"
Listen to Finnish children’s songs and rhymes – Singing helps with remembering new words and pronunciation!
Talk during trips and activities – When you're at the park, in the forest, or shopping, talk in Finnish about what you see and do: "Katso orava!", "Syödään banaania."
Play and have fun with words – Try memory games, name objects, or play “What is this?” at home. You can also draw or use picture cards.
Watch Finnish kids' programs – Shows like Pikku Kakkonen or BUU-klubben are great for language learning!
Even small language moments every day make a big difference! The most important thing is to enjoy learning together. ❤️
