A gentleman was walking through an elephant camp and he made it clear that the elephants were not being kept in cages or chained. Their legs were tied with only a small rope to keep them from leaving the camp. As soon as the man looked at the elephant, he was completely confused as to why the elephants did not use their strength to escape from the camp just by breaking the rope. They could have done it easily, but instead, they didn’t try at all. Curious, he asked a nearby trainer why the elephants were standing there and never tried to escape.
The trainer replied, “When they are very young and very young we use ropes of the same size to tie them and at that age, enough to hold them. As they grow older they begin to believe that they will never be able to break this rope. They always believe that the rope can still hold them, so they never try to get free. "
The only reason the elephants were not released and did not escape from the camp was that over time they adopted the belief that this was not possible.
Moral of the story:
No matter how much the world tries to hold you back, always carry on with the belief that what you want to achieve is possible. Believing you can succeed is actually the most important step to achieving it.
