For the fifth year in a row, one country has been crowned the happiest in the world out of more than 150. The annual World Happiness Report rated Finland first, based on data from global polls on happiness and other well-being indicators.

The report, which is published annually by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Solutions Network, looked at data from 156 countries, including self-reported levels of generosity, freedom to make life choices, perceptions of government and business corruption, and measures of positive and negative emotions. The research also considered data on life expectancy and GDP.

Finland is the only EU country where the number of homeless people is decreasing thanks to the joint targeted work of the state, volunteers, municipalities and non-profit organizations aimed at reducing the number of homeless people since the 1980s.

It is almost impossible to find a person who has never heard of the Finnish brand Nokia.
Thanks to Nokia, we are going to use the Internet on the Moon.

Nokia will begin cooperation with NASA, the US Space Agency, to build a 4G network operating on the Moon.

The Finnish company will receive approximately EUR 12 million in funding from NASA for the project, XDA-Developers said. Nokia confirmed this later in its bulletin.

New district of Helsinki is being made almost entirely from timber, quite literally taking wooden construction in Finland's capital to new heights. Finland has a long tradition of building with timber dating back to the 16th century.

While this was largely limited to housing, a recent relaxing of regulations around multi-storey wooden structures - along with new innovations in wood manufacturing and digital technology - has made building tall with timber an irresistible prospect for developers.
Those changes, combined with high demand for apartments and workplaces in Helsinki, have given rise to Wood City; a new district on one of the city’s former container ports that is being formed almost entirely with timber.

As a key part of the redeveloped Jätkäsaari quarter set to house 17,000 residents and create 6,000 jobs, Wood City combines Finnish wood construction with sustainable design.

How to stay after graduation in Finland?
There are 5 options that can help you.

1. Job Seeker Visa
Once you graduate from college or institute you can apply for job seeker visa for a one year.
During that time you have a chance to find a permanent job and continue living in Finland.

2. Entrepreneurship
You can start up your company and become entrepreneur.

3. Woking in Finland
If you have found a job in Finland you can apply for extended permit on the basis of work.

In 2018, the number of new residence permit applications on the basis of family ties was 11,036. In 2018, the highest numbers of applications came from Russia (1,208), India (936), Iraq (846) and Somalia (558).

A total of 11,305 decisions were made in 2018. The majority of these decisions (approximately 80%) were positive.

The Finnish laws and any international agreements that bind Finland are applied to work performed in Finland. Usually also a collective labour agreement applies. These agreements determine work-related rights and obligations, such as the minimum wage. The purpose of the agreements is to protect employees.
