Finland has many of the ingredients international investors look for: world-class engineering, a highly educated workforce, political stability, clean energy, strong institutions, and recognised expertise in areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum technology, life sciences, and industrial innovation. Yet potential does not automatically become investment.

Today we hosted the FDI Forum 2026, together with AmCham Finland, and one message emerged repeatedly: in global competition, being capable is not enough. Finland must also be fast, predictable, focused and genuinely welcoming.

The discussion brought together foreign investors, business leaders, policymakers and experts from fields including digitalisation, life sciences and permitting. While their perspectives differed, they broadly agreed on what is at stake.

“Never Been Done” is a powerful starting point. But is it a business model?

At HELRIDE Day 0, co-hosted with Helride Collective , Per Welinder explored the connection between skateboarding’s creative instinct and the discipline needed to build a business. 🛹 📈

As a former professional skater, venture capital partner and co-founder of Birdhouse Skateboards with Tony Hawk, Per has experienced both sides.
His message: courage gets you started. Structure helps you survive long enough to succeed.

To revisit his keynote speech, three lessons stood out:

1. Pursue what has never been done.

In skateboarding, NBD means “Never Been Done”, the drive to imagine and attempt something new. That same instinct fuels entrepreneurship. But originality alone is not enough. Founders also need to translate their ideas into something customers understand, value, and buy. Engineering and creativity need sales and marketing alongside them.

2. Build resilience before you need it.

Per introduced “resilience architecture”: rigorously testing your assumptions about timing and leverage before scaling. Is the market ready? Where is the business vulnerable? What needs to change if the original plan stops working?
The practical lesson: challenge your assumptions while you still have room to adapt. Passion matters, but it cannot replace financial and operational discipline.

3. Make failure change your next attempt.

A slam tells a skater something: the approach, speed or timing was wrong. Progress depends on using that information. The same applies to business. A setback becomes useful when it changes a decision, not simply when you endure it. Persistence without adjustment can mean repeating an expensive mistake.

For founders and leaders, the challenge is to hold two ideas together: the ambition to attempt something unprecedented and the discipline to question how you are pursuing it.

What can entrepreneurs learn from falling on concrete? More than you might think.

Skateboarding teaches a mindset that cannot be built from theory alone: the creativity to see possibilities where others see obstacles, the resilience to get back up after failure, and the courage to try something that has never been done before.

At HELRIDE Day 0, co-hosted with , we brought together skateboarding icons, entrepreneurs, and business leaders to explore how this mindset translates from the streets into entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership.
