Every platform thinks its verification is enough, until it isn’t.

Upwork added device and location intelligence on top of ID checks in March 2026, partnering with fraud-detection firm Incognia. Deel did the same back in 2021, layering in verification from Veriff. Years apart, but the pattern is identical: verification constantly needs new layers as fraud evolves.

Companies collect more employee data than the job needs. H&M was fined 35 million euros for exactly that: employee records loaded with far more personal detail than any role called for.
