Lamination Molds – The Key to Producing Quality Composite Products

Did you know that fiberglass parts are created using lamination molds?

At EKA Composite, we specialize in manufacturing components for the marine sector. That means our production floor is filled with molds of all shapes and sizes — anywhere from 1 meter up to 15 meters, depending on whether we're producing a boat hull, deck, inner liner, or smaller parts like hatches, roofs, or inner modules.

Keeping lamination molds in excellent condition is essential to maintaining high product quality. With proper care, a mold can last for a very long time and produce hundreds of parts.

Regular maintenance, such as thorough cleaning after each use, applying mold release sealant, and storing molds away from heat and sunlight, significantly extends mold life and ensures consistent, high-quality results.

At EKA Composite, we not only have the expertise to manufacture completely new molds — we also repair and service molds throughout the production process to keep them performing at their best.

En av våra första anställda på EKA Composite, Bo Löfdahl, som ansvarat för lagerskötsel, fastighetsskötsel och avfallshanteringen har gått i pension. Bo blir samtidigt första anställda att gå i pension från EKA. Vi vill tacka Bo för all den kunskap och kompetens han delat med sig till oss under våra första år på Oravais Fabrik. Alldeles speciellt är att Bo har jobbat i samma fastighet och fabriksområde ända sedan han var 16 år gammal. Lokalen har växt och arbetsgivarna har bytt genom åren men Bo har bestått. En mera lojal anställd har man fått söka efter. Utan Bos kunnande om fastigheten hade EKA Composite inte kunnat få en lika smidig start i de 11600m2 stora utrymmena. I samband med att vi tackade Bo för hans insats uppmärksammande även några av hans tidigare arbetsgivare honom, Harri Backlund från före detta Oravais Hus samt Mika Uusimäki från Kannustalo.

Tack Bo för din insats och vi önskar dig all lycka till med pensionsdagarna och hoppas se dig fortsättningsvis på fabriken.

One of our first employees at EKA Composite, Bo Löfdahl, who has been responsible for the warehouse, factory and waste management, has retired. Bo also becomes the first employee to retire from EKA. We would like to thank Bo for all the knowledge and expertise he has shared with us during our first years at Oravais Fabrik. What is very special about Bo is that he has worked in the same property and factory area since he was 16 years old. The factory has grown, and the employers have changed over the years, but Bo has remained. A more loyal employee is difficult to find. Without Bo's knowledge of the factory, EKA Composite would not have been able to get such a smooth start in the 11,600m2 plant. At the same time as we from EKA Composite thanked Bo for his work, some of his previous employers also thanked Bo, Harri Backlund from the former Oravais Hus and Mika Uusimäki from Kannustalo.

Thank you, Bo, for your time at EKA and we wish you all the best in your retirement and hope to see you many times at the factory to check on us and the plant.

Presented at the Vene Båt in Helsinki 7-16th of February the Yamarin Cross concept boat, which utilizes natural fibres and recycled materials.

We are excited to finally be able to show the concept boat we have been working on the past six months within the project “Green transition of vacuum infusion process”. A milestone in the project has been to test natural fibres, pet-based core material, a resin that utilizes pet and a gelcoat that provides up to 50% less VOC emissions than a standard gelcoat.

“Within this 2,5-year project we are testing several new materials and production methods for a more sustainable production, to be able to present and give ideas to all of our customers for their products that can be implemented in production in our factory.” tells Mikael Strand, CEO of EKA Composites.

“We thought that a boat with an aluminium hull that can contain between 30–70 percent recycled material, depending on the delivery batch, would be a great match to a deck produced with flax fibres. We approached our partner Inhan Tehtaat with this idea, and they joined us immediately for this important project. Together with Inhan Tehtaat, brand owner of Buster, Cross and Yamarin, we share a strong commitment to test new materials to be able to reach a higher level of sustainability in production, says Strand.

"The project between Inhan Tehtaat and EKA Composites will continue, and we will tell more about it during the spring and summer. New materials will be tested in usage and durability tests will be carried out during the upcoming boating season, and a decision on a commercial launch will be made based on the tests and market feedback," says Artturi Niittynen, Sales and Marketing Director at Inhan Tehtaat.
