🌲 Exciting steps for Rautjärvi tourism! 🌿

I’m just on my way back from the Visit Finland - Lakeland Sales Workshop in Cologne, Germany, where I had the pleasure of representing Hugo’s Villas, Inn & Smoke Sauna in Rautjärvi, near Imatra.

For the past 1.5 years, we’ve been working to build sustainable tourism services that energize local entrepreneurship, bring hope, and revitalize the region.

This sales workshop was, for me, the first real proof of concept - we saw strong interest from German DMCs and travel agencies, and we’ve started to build a network of tourism professionals for the future.

None of this would be possible without the incredible support of Visit Finland, Nordic Marketing, GoSaimaa, and the financial assistance provided through KEHY.

I’m truly grateful to be part of something exciting, meaningful, and rooted in local entrepreneurship - a project created by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs - in a region that deserves far more attention. 💚

🌱 Strengthening the Foundations of Regenerative Agriculture
Over the past month, I’ve had the pleasure of working side by side with my friend and colleague Andrei Girz in southern Finland, assessing fields and studying the foundations blocks of regenerative agriculture.

Our work focused on:

🔹 Soil structure (using the VESS method)
🔹 Drainage and water cycles
🔹 Soil sampling to analyse chemical properties — including carbon content

To make this process efficient and scalable, we built on the pioneering work of Tuomas Mattila and Jukka Rajala, using frameworks developed in the OSMO project and applied in MAANeuvos trainings for advisors and agricultural professionals.

Together, we developed a QGIS-based assessment tool that streamlines fieldwork, georeferenced data collection at high accuracy, evaluation, and the formulation of recommendations — essentially, a practical system to help restore the water cycle and rebuild soil structure, the very foundation of regenerative agriculture.

A big thanks to everyone whose work laid the groundwork for this — standing on the shoulders of giants truly moves this field forward. 🙏

In June, I had the privilege of joining a group of international experts on a visit to Kenya, where we assessed the potential of the YMCA Agricultural School to become a future centre of agricultural excellence for the region.

For me, this experience was both a professional highlight and a personal inspiration. It was a real pleasure to contribute to such meaningful work - and I truly hope to be involved in similar initiatives again.

What impressed me most were the students of the agricultural school: their positive attitude, curiosity, and hands-on engagement with regenerative agriculture were simply inspiring. 🌱 Their openness and joy in learning show that the future of farming in Kenya is in capable and motivated hands.

🌍✨ Last week, I had the incredible honor of being invited by YMCA in cooperation with BSAG to Kenya 🇰🇪 to share my knowledge on regenerative agriculture. It felt like coming home.

🌱 The approach I shared - Holistic Management - was originally developed by Alan Savory in Zimbabwe. His vision? An agriculture of abundance, where humans, domestic animals, and wildlife thrive together in harmony.

💚 On the ground, I saw firsthand how powerful this can be: how ground cover, grazing animals, and compost can heal the land, prevent drought, and protect both people and animals from starvation. I saw how this kind of farming can free girls to go to school, restore dignity to rural life, and open up real opportunities for young people in a country blessed with natural beauty — but where youth unemployment and underemployment remain a massive challenge, affecting millions.

🙏 God willing, I hope to return and continue working in this incredible part of the world - a land where the natural beauty is only surpassed by the hospitality, warmth, and strength of its people.

Uuden vuoden myötä asetin itselleni tavoitteen kirjoittaa enemmän ja julkaista työni. Halusin selkeyttää ajatteluani, kehittää uuden taidon ja osallistua tärkeisiin keskusteluihin.

Viime viikolla sain valmiiksi ensimmäisen blogiartikkelini, joka käynnistää Miksi-sarjan – syväsukelluksen siihen, miksi Holistic Management toimii ja miksi sen periaatteet ovat niin vaikuttavia. Sukellan aiheeseen sekä laajasti että syvällisesti, tuon mukaan omakohtaisia kokemuksiani viljelijänä ja neuvonantajana sekä asetan kaiken laajempaan kontekstiin.

Hello Everyone! 👋

With the start of the new year, I set myself the goal of writing more and actually publishing my work. I wanted to gain more clarity in my thinking, develop a new skill, and contribute to important discussions.

Last week, I completed my first blog article, which kicks off the WHY series - a deep dive into why Holistic Management works and why its principles are so effective. I’ll be going both deep and wide, making it personal, drawing from my experience as a farmer and advisor, and putting it all into context.

I must have done something right because HMI (=Holistic Management International) generously featured me as a guest blogger on their homepage! 🎉

The next article will focus on financial planning -
why it matters and why it makes sense to do it.
