Story of Veron’s Journey with PRAN-Pacific Rainbows Advocacy Network
Bula Vinaka.
My name is Veron, and I currently reside in Lautoka. My journey with the Pacific Rainbows Advocacy Network (PRAN) began in 2016, when close friends who were active volunteers introduced me to the network. From the very beginning, I was inspired by the tireless work PRAN has carried out to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals across our communities.🏳️🌈
Over the years, I have attended numerous meetings and workshops organized by PRAN. These gatherings opened my eyes to the urgent need to address high rates of violence, marginalization, and discrimination. Motivated by this reality, I committed myself to advocacy in HIV & AIDS and championing the decriminalization of s*x work and striving to improve access to justice through my volunteer work with PRAN.
My involvement with PRAN has been transformative. Through training in leadership, resource mobilization, and self-care techniques, I was able to transition from vulnerable circumstances into a more stable position, becoming a recognized voice within the organization. The respect, understanding, and humble support I received from PRAN members gave me the strength to continue contributing to the greater good and well-being of s*x workers and other key vulnerable individuals.
Advocacy for me is deeply personal, grounded in lived experience. PRAN has inspired me to seek justice and has created spaces for dialogue that embrace diversity and inclusivity. By amplifying our collective voices, PRAN has shown that progress is possible when communities unite.
This journey has emphasized the importance of community-led advocacy. By finding solutions together, we can drive positive change for LGBTQI+ and SOGIESC+ communities. My hope is to see a future where social stigma is reduced and discriminatory laws are reformed, paving the way for dignity and equality.
As we move forward, let us remain resilient. Diversity is our ancestral truth, and equality and dignity are non-negotiable rights. With unity, respect, and courage, we will continue to shape a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow.
