Story of Veron’s Journey with PRAN-Pacific Rainbows Advocacy Network

Bula Vinaka.
My name is Veron, and I currently reside in Lautoka. My journey with the Pacific Rainbows Advocacy Network (PRAN) began in 2016, when close friends who were active volunteers introduced me to the network. From the very beginning, I was inspired by the tireless work PRAN has carried out to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals across our communities.🏳️‍🌈

Over the years, I have attended numerous meetings and workshops organized by PRAN. These gatherings opened my eyes to the urgent need to address high rates of violence, marginalization, and discrimination. Motivated by this reality, I committed myself to advocacy in HIV & AIDS and championing the decriminalization of s*x work and striving to improve access to justice through my volunteer work with PRAN.

My involvement with PRAN has been transformative. Through training in leadership, resource mobilization, and self-care techniques, I was able to transition from vulnerable circumstances into a more stable position, becoming a recognized voice within the organization. The respect, understanding, and humble support I received from PRAN members gave me the strength to continue contributing to the greater good and well-being of s*x workers and other key vulnerable individuals.

Advocacy for me is deeply personal, grounded in lived experience. PRAN has inspired me to seek justice and has created spaces for dialogue that embrace diversity and inclusivity. By amplifying our collective voices, PRAN has shown that progress is possible when communities unite.

This journey has emphasized the importance of community-led advocacy. By finding solutions together, we can drive positive change for LGBTQI+ and SOGIESC+ communities. My hope is to see a future where social stigma is reduced and discriminatory laws are reformed, paving the way for dignity and equality.

As we move forward, let us remain resilient. Diversity is our ancestral truth, and equality and dignity are non-negotiable rights. With unity, respect, and courage, we will continue to shape a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow.

Shukriya and Vinaka vakalevu.

Youth Assemblies of Fiji (YAF) West Strengthens Partnership with PRAN Fiji

The President of the Youth Assemblies of Fiji (YAF) West, Mr Viliame Vauvau has expressed deep appreciation and pride in being part of a growing movement that seeks to amplify the voices of young people across the nation.

Speaking following a recent stakeholders’ meeting, the President highlighted the significance of collaboration among youth-focused organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The meeting, hosted by PRAN Fiji, brought together key partners working towards improving the wellbeing of young people and vulnerable communities.

“It is truly an honor to be part of this movement and to walk alongside other NGOs as we strive to be the voice of young people in our nation,” the President shared.

YAF West, operating as under the umbrella body of the National Youth Council of Fiji (NYCF), was invited to participate in the engagement, where PRAN Fiji showcased its ongoing work and initiatives aimed at supporting young people and key populations throughout the country.

The President commended PRAN Fiji for its dedication and compassionate approach, particularly in addressing the needs of vulnerable communities. “Their commitment reminds us that real change begins when we stand together, listen to those who are often unheard, and act with love and responsibility,” the President noted.

Reaffirming its commitment, YAF West pledged to strengthen its partnership with PRAN Fiji in advancing shared goals. The collaboration aims to promote a safer and more inclusive Fiji—one where every young person feels valued, protected, and empowered to reach their full potential.

“As YAF West, we stand shoulder to shoulder with PRAN Fiji in this movement. Together, we can build a future grounded in unity, teamwork, and hope—a Fiji where no one is left behind,” the President concluded.

We respectfully acknowled the traditional landowners of the land on which we gathered, honoring their stewardship and the deep cultural ties that continue to guide us.

The Pacific Rainbows Advocacy Network (PRAN) recently convened to focus on the development and review of our governance and administrative documents, including the organisation’s Terms of Reference(TOR) and Child Protection Policy(CPP). This important work strengthens our foundation and ensures that our values of dignity, inclusion, and accountability are embedded in all that we do.
🏳️‍🌈
We extend heartfelt appreciation to all members who attended and contributed to this process. Your voices and insights are vital in shaping a resilient and transparent organisation.
We also sincerely acknowledge Niumai for facilitating the session, ensuring that our dialogue was constructive, inclusive, and forward-looking.

A special word of gratitude goes to our senior members whose presence and wisdom guided the discussions. Your leadership and support continue to inspire us as we move forward together.
