Yesterday, our Health and Enforcement Team was out in the field addressing several issues affecting our communities, including derelict vehicles, wastewater leakage, and littering.

These issues may seem minor, but they can have serious impacts on public health, safety, and the environment. Derelict vehicles can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and rodents, create safety hazards, and negatively affect the appearance of neighbourhoods. Wastewater leakage poses significant health risks by contaminating the environment, producing unpleasant odours, and increasing the spread of waterborne diseases. Littering not only detracts from the beauty of our communities but can also block drainage systems, contribute to flooding, and harm wildlife and ecosystems.

As a Council, the welfare and wellbeing of our entire community remains our top priority. We are committed to ensuring that our neighbourhoods are clean, safe, healthy, and environmentally sustainable for all residents. Through ongoing inspections, enforcement activities, and public awareness efforts, we continue to work towards improving the quality of life for everyone in our municipality.

We encourage all residents to do their part by disposing of waste responsibly, reporting wastewater issues promptly, and removing or properly managing derelict vehicles on their properties. Together, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant community for current and future generations.

Today, Nasinu Town Council was honoured to receive a courtesy visit from the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Rusiate Tudravu.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for meaningful discussions on strengthening cooperation between the Fiji Police Force and Nasinu Town Council in addressing key issues affecting our communities. We discussed several critical matters, explored practical solutions, and identified ways to further enhance our partnership in serving the people of Nasinu.

The meeting was highly productive, with many of the concerns and requests raised being positively addressed. It reaffirmed our shared commitment to creating safer, stronger, and more resilient communities through collaboration and mutual support.

During the discussions, the Commissioner of Police and the Council leadership agreed on the importance of strengthening the existing partnership under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) through greater collaboration, resource sharing, and coordinated community initiatives. Both parties recognised that sustainable community development and public safety go hand in hand, and that strong partnerships are essential in achieving these goals.

Council Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Felix Magnus highlighted that many of the Council's development initiatives are focused on improving the quality of life and prosperity of Nasinu residents. He noted that community safety remains a fundamental component of these efforts, making the ongoing partnership with the Fiji Police Force increasingly important.

Commissioner Tudravu reaffirmed the Fiji Police Force's commitment to supporting programmes and initiatives that uplift communities, particularly those that focus on youth development, crime prevention, and community empowerment. He also emphasised that meaningful progress can only be achieved when government agencies, local authorities, community groups, and the private sector work together towards common goals.

Nasinu Town Council extends its sincere appreciation to Commissioner Tudravu for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit the Council and engage in these important discussions. We look forward to continuing this strong partnership with our policing teams as we work collectively to serve our community and improve the wellbeing of all residents.

Most importantly, this initiative highlights the grooming of future leaders right here within our communities. The Special Administrator, Mr John Tuiono, attended a high-level stakeholders meeting regarding the Emerald Bay
Development Project, alongside representatives from the Water Authority of Fiji, National Planning Office, Fiji Roads Authority, Energy Fiji Limited, contractors, and the Emerald Bay development team.

As one of Fiji's significant national development projects, the Emerald Bay Development continues to play a vital role in supporting economic growth, infrastructure expansion, and future investment opportunities. The meeting focused on ensuring all key stakeholders work together in unity to address challenges, minimise project setbacks, and establish clear pathways forward for successful implementation.

Mr Tuiono emphasised the importance of collaboration, open communication, and coordinated planning to ensure the project progresses efficiently while delivering long-term benefits to residents, businesses, and the wider community.

Nasinu Town Council remains committed to supporting developments that contribute to sustainable growth, improved infrastructure, and a brighter future for Fiji.

Today, Nasinu Town Council Chairman Mr. Felix Magnus had the honour of serving as the Chief Guest at St. John Bosco Primary School, where he delivered an inspiring message to students on the importance of education, good values, and responsible citizenship.

Mr. Magnus highlighted that education is the foundation for success and the key to developing the future leaders of our beloved nation. He encouraged students to stay focused on their studies, dream big, work hard, and never allow obstacles to stand in the way of their ambitions. He reminded them that every great leader started as a child with a dream and a commitment to learning.

The Chairman also addressed some of the major challenges affecting society today, including drug abuse, crime, violence, bullying, and negative peer pressure, which continue to impact many young people. He urged students to make wise choices, stay away from harmful influences, and focus on activities that will positively contribute to their future and their communities.

Joining the programme was the Police Liaison Officer for the Inter-Agencies Committee, who echoed similar sentiments on the growing concerns surrounding drugs and crime within our communities. He stressed the importance of working together as families, schools, communities, faith-based organisations, government agencies, and law enforcement to address these issues. He reminded students that preventing crime and drug abuse is a shared responsibility and that everyone has a role to play in building safer and stronger communities.

Both speakers encouraged students to show respect for their parents, teachers, elders, and members of the community, uphold strong values, and be positive role models for their peers.

As our society continues to face various social challenges, it is vital that we invest in our young people, empower them through education, and guide them towards making responsible decisions. Together, we can nurture a generation that is not only academically successful but also respectful, resilient, and committed to creating a better future for Fiji.
