Global challenges to socio-economic development and environmental sustainability have prompted increased efforts to find alternative strategies for development. There is a growing global movement to advance concepts and frameworks of the Social Economy (SE) as a way to address increasing inequality of social, health, economic and ecological conditions, to provide alternative solutions to the perce
ived failure of neo-liberal dominated globalisation and to address the weakening social capital of communities. Social Economy is recognized by three guiding principles: co-operative enterprises, mutual benefit societies, and nonprofit associations, with an innovative framework to enhance the social, economic and environmental conditions of urban and rural communities, development of an economic order based on solidarity, participation and cooperation as an alternative to the mainstream neo-liberal capitalist economy. Nehemiah Corporation is challenging the paradigm of an unsustainable and unjust future. There is no doubt that a new social and economic paradigm is a necessary step towards global sustainability, encompassing the fusion of economic, social and ecological goals.
