June is Environment & Oceans Month β A Time for Action, Learning and Community Stewardship.
This June, as Fiji joins the global celebration of World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, the Suva City Council is proud to stand alongside the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and our environmental partners in promoting a cleaner, greener and more resilient future for all.
Under this year's themes, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future" and "Reimagine: Beyond the world we know, a new relationship with our ocean," we are reminded that the health of our environment and oceans directly impacts our wellbeing, livelihoods and future generations.
The month-long programme of activities, awareness campaigns, competitions and community initiatives will officially roll out at My Suva Park, bringing together government agencies, municipal councils, schools, civil society organisations, businesses and communities in a shared commitment to environmental and ocean stewardship.
Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Sivendra Michael said Our environment and oceans are more than just our surroundings. They provide food, livelihoods, cultural identity and protection for our communities. They are part of who we are as a nation."
As we mark Environment & Oceans Month, we encourage everyone to support the Ministry's 'Do the Right Thing' campaign by reducing litter, disposing of waste responsibly, protecting waterways and caring for the natural spaces we all share.
Acting CEO and Chairman,Mr Tevita Boseiwaqa, said: "Protecting our environment begins with everyday actions. Through education, community participation and collective responsibility, we can create a cleaner and more sustainable Suva for future generations."
Together, we can inspire positive change, strengthen environmental awareness and build a city that values and protects its environment and oceans every day.
