Russia bans fruit, veg imports from U.S., EU, Australia, Canada and Norway
Alcohol imports from both the EU and the US will not be restricted.

EU citrus production forecast is lower for 2012/2013

Lower orange production in Italy and diminished mandarin and lemon crops in Spain have contributed to what's expected to be a 2012/2013 citrus season in Europe that will have less production than the previous season.
The good news for consumers is that, despite diminished supplies of oranges this season, growing conditions have contributed to a crop with good sizing and sugar content.

US business group urges Pacific trade pact in 2012
The US Chamber of Commerce wants the trans-Pacific trade pact that Washington is negotiating with eight other countries to be completed this year.The chamber's president Thomas Donohue made the comment Thursday in his annual speech on the state of American business.That's an ambitious deadline for an agreement that aims to not just to reduce tariffs but address labor rights and other issues.
Donohue also urged free trade deals with countries including Brazil, Egypt, India, and Indonesia.He called for the US to negotiate bilateral investment treaties with China and India "to ensure that American investors are treated fairly overseas." (mtq)

China exempts vegetables from value-added tax
China's fresh vegetable sellers will be exempted from a 13 per cent value-added tax from 2012, China's Ministry of Finance said on Monday, the latest step by Beijing to relieve cost pressures on smaller firms. Wholesale and retail sellers of sliced, frozen, dried and packaged vegetables from potatoes to cabbages are entitled to the tax break, the ministry said on its website. China's latest tax cut cites a long list of produce, including tomatoes and corn, in the exemption.

China and New Zealand sign apple market access agreement
Chinese and New Zealand quarantine authorities have finalised an agreement that clarifies the conditions of access for New Zealand apples into China and provides greater certainty for traders. The agreement, Protocol of phytosanitary requirements for the export of apples from New Zealand to China, was signed in Wellington today.

Brazil: Apple imports grow 48%
With a strong currency (Real) and a loss in harvest quality in 2011 due to hail, more apples are being imported to the national market. According to the Secretary of External Commerce (Secex), from January to August, the amount of imported apple has risen by 47.7%, reaching 50,800 tons.

Guinea-Bissau to export over 170,000 tons of cashew nut
This year, according to the trade minister, the total production of cashew nut is estimated to be 300,000 tons. Cashew nut farming in Guinea-Bissau is spread on a surface area of about 175,000 hectares. A program to revamp cashew nut farming that was funded by the United States to the tune of 3.5 million dollars was launched this year. The program aims to improve the quality of cashew nut, increase production and help in the transformation of cashew nut meant for export.

Mexico: Organic avocado price set at 40 pesos
The Producers and Merchants Association of Mexican Organic Avocado recommended selling the fruit at 40 pesos per kilo.
In a statement, the organization detailed that the American company Calavo is buying the product at 37 pesos.
