Travelling to our vineyards in Lesquerde, we pass through the dramatic gorge along Rue de la Fou, where spring transforms the landscape. Water cascades from the rocks as seasonal rainfall combines with the warmer temperatures melting snow high in the Pyrenees. Below, the River Agly flows stronger once again after a long period of unusually low water levels.
Although water restrictions still remain in some communes across the Pyrénées-Orientales, this year’s spring rains have brought a welcome sense of relief. After three years of severe drought, the return of flowing rivers, replenished reservoirs, and greener hillsides has been especially important for the region’s farmers, vineyards, and local communities. The changing seasons in southwest France are always striking, but this spring feels particularly significant — a reminder of how closely life here depends on the rhythms of weather and water.
