📢 🇫🇷 Nation Data Center Breaks Ground on 7 MW AI Facility in France

Nation Data Center, an Altarea Group subsidiary, has broken ground on a new 7 MW IT data centre in Vélizy-Villacoublay as part of a mixed-use urban development in the Paris region.

The facility is being designed for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads and will combine advanced cooling with heat recovery, while the wider development includes social student housing and local retail facilities.

Project Highlights

• Project: NDC Paris 1

• Location: Vélizy-Villacoublay, France

• Developer/operator: Nation Data Center, Altarea Group

• IT capacity: 7 MW

• IT space: Approximately 2,268 sq m

• Target PUE: 1.2

• Primary applications: AI and high-performance computing

• Current stage: Construction started

• Expected delivery: 2027

• Mixed-use programme: 365 social student housing units and four shops

Scope of Work

• Data centre construction

• High-density computing infrastructure

• Air and direct liquid cooling systems

• Electrical and mechanical infrastructure

• Waste-heat recovery

• District heating integration

• Mixed-use development coordination

Key Project Features

• The facility will be designed to operate across conventional air cooling and direct liquid cooling configurations for demanding AI and HPC workloads.

• Nation Data Center targets a PUE of 1.2 for the facility.

• Waste heat from the data centre will be recovered through Vélizy's district heating network and contribute to heating the neighbouring student residence.

• The development places a high-density digital infrastructure asset alongside housing and local retail under a single mixed-use programme.

• Nation Data Center already operates two facilities in Rennes and is developing additional sites in Rouen and Paris.

• Altarea has also partnered with Vantage Data Centers on a separate 400 MW data-centre campus in Bordeaux.

→ The Vélizy project illustrates a model in which advanced computing infrastructure is integrated into an urban environment while recovering data-centre waste heat for local use.

Nation Data Center's 7 MW Vélizy project combines AI-ready digital infrastructure, liquid cooling and heat recovery with housing and retail, adding a new dimension to data-centre development in France.
