A Week of Digital Innovation and International Cooperation! 🇫🇷

We were delighted to participate once again in the International Digital Week 2026, hosted by Université Côte d'Azur in beautiful Nice, France!

This year’s event brought together nearly 400 participants and facilitators from around 100 universities and organisations across 47 countries to exchange ideas on Digital Transformation in Education, Digital Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Internationalisation for Society.

We were proud to contribute to these important conversations through our own Apostolis Altiparmakis, who moderated the round table “AI-Powered Education: Global Opportunities, Societal Risks and Ethical Implications”, opening a timely discussion on how AI can support education while also raising important ethical and societal questions.

We also had the pleasure of presenting a poster session on European cooperation for a fair digital future, highlighting the importance of collaboration, inclusion and shared responsibility in Europe’s digital transition.

A huge thank you to the organising team for inviting us once more and for the excellent organisation throughout. It was inspiring, international and full of meaningful exchanges.

We are already looking forward to next year!

We were really glad to be part of the 4th Post-Submission Funding Symposium in Spetses. It was a great opportunity to exchange views on where European funding is heading and what it actually takes to stay competitive in upcoming calls.

What stood out most was the openness of the discussions: sharing real experiences, challenges, and practical approaches to proposal development in an increasingly demanding environment.

Many thanks to the Center for Social Innovation and CESIE ETS for bringing everyone together and creating such a thoughtful and well-organized space for exchange.

Looking forward to building on these conversations in the months ahead!

What happens when sustainability meets inner growth in higher education? 🎓

In our latest episode, André Nijhof (Nyenrode Business Universiteit) and Savis Gohari (NTNU) share how their paths crossed through the ALIGN project and how that collaboration opened up deeper conversations about the future of universities.

At the center of the discussion are the Inner Development Goals (IDGs): a framework that is gaining real traction as higher education institutions grapple with complex global challenges. From climate responsibility to social impact, the question is no longer just what students learn but who they become in the process.

This conversation offers a thoughtful look at why inner development is moving from the margins to the core of academic thinking and what that means for educators, institutions and learners alike.

SMART-CSA in Kalamata, Greece 🇬🇷

Two days in Kalamata (22-23 June) reminded us why collaboration is important. Partners from across Europe came together, not just to review progress, but to have honest conversations about where we are and where we want to go next. There was a real sense of shared purpose in the room, as we explored how SMART-CSA can meaningfully support more resilient urban and peri-urban farming.

At its core, the project brings together Community-Supported Agriculture, permaculture practices and smart technologies, connecting them with vocational education and training. But beyond the concepts and frameworks, what stood out most was the collective commitment to making these ideas work in practice.

A particularly memorable moment was our visit to Katsou Organic Farm (Αγρόκτημα Κάτσου). Walking through the fields and seeing the work up close gave real weight to everything we had been discussing. The care, knowledge and dedication behind each aspect of the farm were evident and also a powerful reminder of what sustainable agriculture looks like when it is lived, not just planned.

A sincere thank you to our partners at the University of the Peloponnese for their generous hospitality, thoughtful coordination and for creating such a welcoming and productive environment for all of us.

Understanding EU in Action: Connecting Citizens, Ideas and Europe 🇪🇺

On 15 June, we had the pleasure of hosting the International Knowledge Party as part of the project, co-funded by the European Union.

The event brought together researchers, practitioners and stakeholders to present the project’s objectives and key results, while opening up engaging discussions on: (1) European identity and shared values, (2) Democratic participation and citizen engagement in the EU and (3) How EU policies shape everyday life across member states.

We were honored to welcome two keynote speakers:
↳ Prof. Dr. Steffen Hurka (Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen), who addressed “Policy Complexity in the EU: Challenges and Solutions” and
↳ Dr. Antonis Klapsis (University of the Peloponnese), who reflected on the values and importance of the EU in everyday life.

Key takeaways:
• Bridging the gap between EU institutions and citizens requires clearer communication, more accessible language, and stronger connections to everyday experiences,
• European identity is strengthened through inclusive dialogue, education and active civic participation,
• A certain level of complexity is inherent to inclusive and democratic policymaking and should be acknowledged and communicated effectively,
• Simplifying legal language and regulatory frameworks must go hand in hand with preserving clarity, certainty, and high standards,
• Making EU action more visible in daily life helps citizens better understand its value and impact.

A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a meaningful exchange. The conversations created valuable food for thought and inspiration for future actions.

E-SHIFT Partnership Meeting in Bastia📍

On 11–12 June, the E-SHIFT partnership met in Bastia, Corsica, for a productive transnational project meeting hosted by Coopérative d'entrepreneurs de Corse Workinscop, the project coordinator.

The meeting brought together partners from France, Germany, Austria, Sweden and Greece to review progress, align the next stages of implementation, and strengthen coordination across the consortium. Discussions focused on the project’s core outputs, including the skills assessment matrix, the market insights report, and the development of the adaptive EQF5 learning pathway for adult learners.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to reflect on the project’s wider mission: supporting manufacturing and assembly line workers in their transition toward the digital economy through practical, flexible and work-based learning opportunities.

Bringing the EU Closer to Its Citizens 🇪🇺

We recently marked the final event of the Understanding EU project, combined with our last Transnational Project Meeting in Vienna, an important milestone for our partnership.

Public conversations about the , from institutional processes to topics such as active youth engagement, regulations and legislation, are often complex and sometimes polarised. At the same time, the EU represents a shared space where diversity is valued, common ground can be found and every voice can be raised.

This is exactly where the Understanding EU project comes in: making EU-related knowledge more accessible through materials in easy language, so that more people can understand, engage and contribute based on facts.

Our final meeting in Vienna gave us the opportunity to reflect on our results, share insights and celebrate the strong collaboration behind this work. If you are looking to better understand how the European Union works, you can explore our Knowledge Bits on the platform: https://understanding.bgfe.eu/en/

A big thank you to all our European partners:
Bürger/innen Forum Europa, Bupnet GmbH, University of the Peloponnese and Folkuniversitetet.

We are also grateful to the Erlebnis Europa Centre in Vienna for hosting us and supporting this meaningful exchange and of course to Felix Michael Hafner for coordinating the entire process.

🇵🇹 DIGI-METER has officially kicked off in Lisbon!

On 12-13 May, partners came together in Portugal for the DIGI-METER Kick-off Meeting, kindly hosted by Aproximar.

The project is coordinated by the Center for Social Innovation - CSI in Cyprus and brings together partners from Cyprus, Greece, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Italy and Belgium.

Beyond the agenda, presentations and planning, these two days were really about people: meeting each other properly, listening to different perspectives, sharing ideas openly and building the trust that makes collaboration work.

DIGI-METER will focus on making digital competence assessment more practical, fair and useful for learners and educators across Europe. It is an ambitious goal, but Lisbon reminded us that strong projects start with strong partnerships.

EU regulations, policies and principles define daily life across the continent. But understanding them? That's often another story.

For most people, European legislation lives somewhere between a government website and a policy paper: important, but rarely easy to approach. The gap between what the EU does and what citizens actually know about it is real and it has been there for a long time.

The project, co-funded by the EU, is a partnership of organisations from across Europe exploring exactly that gap. The goal is straightforward: make EU regulations, policies and principles more accessible, more understandable and more relevant to the people they affect every day.

One of the outcomes of this work is the Knowledge Bits: bite-sized learning units designed to inform without overwhelming, available in:

🇬🇧 English 🇫🇷 French 🇩🇪 German 🇸🇪 Swedish 🇬🇷 Greek

If you have ever wanted to understand Europe a little better, this is a good place to start.
