Art Basel is more than the main fair.

During Basel Art Week, the city unfolds into a wider cultural circuit, from emerging platforms such as Liste, VOLTA and Africa Basel to major institutional exhibitions at Kunstmuseum Basel, Fondation Beyeler, Tinguely Museum and Vitra Design Museum.

At SSAA, we map the moments, exhibitions and parallel events worth following closely, connecting the fair experience to the broader conversations shaping contemporary art today.

Behind the sharp humor and the viral persona, Jerry Gogosian revealed something deeper about the art world: its contradictions, its power structures, and the vulnerability often hidden behind irony.

More than a retrospective, the first major exhibition in France dedicated to Leonora Carrington reveals the construction of a universe entirely her own, between Surrealism, memory, exile, and reinvention. Christie’s set new auction records for Jackson Po***ck, Constantin Brancusi, Mark Rothko and Joan Miró, led by Po***ck’s Number 7A, 1948, sold for $181.2 million. Brancusi’s Danaïde reached $107.6 million, becoming the artist’s auction record and one of the most expensive sculptures ever sold at auction.
