Christine Poirot-Delpech (1933-2022) a travaillé pendant 30 ans aux côtés du marchand de tableaux Maurice Garnier et a participé à la promotion des artistes défendus par sa galerie. À partir de 1977, époque à laquelle la galerie a commencé à se consacrer uniquement à la carrière de Bernard Buffet, elle a noué une relation particulière avec celui-ci. Fille du peintre Madeleine Kula dite Luka, elle a, grâce à son œil averti, constitué la collection proposée aux enchères le 6 avril par avec goût et intelligence, choisissant des pièces fortes et emblématiques. Bouquets, natures mortes, figures monumentales, autoportraits, paysages : nous retrouvons dans cette vente toute la variété des thèmes abordés par Bernard Buffet dans son œuvre.
Artiste phare de la galerie Maurice Garnier, Bernard Buffet est aujourd’hui considéré comme le plus grand représentant de la figuration moderne française et un artiste d’après-guerre majeur. Son style unique et affirmé le propulse très vite sur le devant de la scène. En 1948, lors de sa première exposition particulière, le Musée national d’Art moderne de Paris acquiert une de ses œuvres alors qu’il n’a que 20 ans. Jusqu’en 1999, sa peinture fera ce que tout artiste ambitionne : provoquer des émotions.

Christine Poirot-Delpech (1933-2022) worked for 30 years with the art dealer Maurice Garnier and participated in the promotion of the artists represented by his gallery. From 1977 onwards, when the gallery devoted itself exclusively to the career of Bernard Buffet, she developed a special relationship with the artist. Daughter of the painter Madeleine Kula, known as Luka, she put together, thanks to her discerning eye, the collection being offered at auction on 6 April by with taste and intelligence, choosing strong and emblematic pieces. Bouquets, still lifes, monumental figures, self-portraits, landscapes: we find in this sale all the variety of themes addressed by Bernard Buffet in his work.
The star artist of the Maurice Garnier Gallery, Bernard Buffet is today considered the greatest representative of French modern figurative art and a major artist of the post-war period. His unique and assertive style quickly brought him to the forefront. In 1948, at his first solo exhibition, the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris acquired one of his works – he was, at the time, then 20 years old. Until his death in 1999, he continued to produce paintings that achieved what every artist aims to do: inspire an emotional reaction.
