On this day in 1653, Johann Pachelbel was baptized in Nuremberg. His exact birth date remains unknown, but today offers a fitting occasion to celebrate one of the great masters of the Baroque.
Far more than the composer of the famous Canon in D, Pachelbel enriched sacred and keyboard music with melodic clarity, elegant counterpoint and a lasting influence that reached the Bach family and generations beyond.
