We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our colleagues at the ISSN Centre in Egypt, which is hosted by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology's Egyptian National STI Network (ENSTINET/ASRT), for their generous support in Cairo this week, where they trained our Omani counterparts.

As we move forward with opening a new ISSN Centre in Oman, we greatly appreciate their commitment to sharing their expertise and knowledge. Delivering this training in Arabic was especially valuable in ensuring a smooth and effective transfer of skills.

This kind of collaboration truly reflects the strength of our international network.

Have you ever wondered how abbreviations in the titles of scholarly serial publications are created?

They follow precise, internationally agreed rules, as defined in ISO 4, the standard that governs the abbreviation of title words and publication titles. First introduced in 1972 and regularly updated, ISO 4 ensures clarity, consistency and unambiguous identification in scholarly communications.

The ISSN International Centre implements this standard using the List of Title Word Abbreviations (LTWA), a comprehensive resource containing over 56,000 standardised abbreviations in 65 languages.

Want to find out more? Discover the LTWA for free on the ISSN Portal:
