Welcome to Paris

Welcome to Paris Life Coach & Cross cultural Trainer working with & welcoming new people to Paris with insights, information & techniques to help adjust here with ease.

Recently moved to Paris? Thinking of or planning to move to Paris? Whatever your circumstances are for being in Paris; whether for work, for love, for study, for experience, for retirement, for any reason at all, whether you will be here for 1 month, 1 year or 20 years, WELCOME TO PARIS offers you information, support & insight to get you up and running in this beautiful city. My name is Derval Ch

ambers-Petit. I am Irish, married to a French man and have been living in Paris since August 2009. I moved here for one simple but big reason, I moved to the city of lights for Love! I left my good job, nice home, all my friends & family and my happy and established life in Dublin, Ireland to join my then boyfriend in Paris. I was ready & excited to start a new chapter in my life & to explore & experience this new country, culture & way of life. The flight over was only 1 hour 15 minutes, the language was different sure, but I’d pick it up easily enough & I already had a few words, so it wouldn’t be that big a change to what I was used to, OR WOULD IT? I am in Paris now over 4 years and happily married to the same Frenchy and as I look back on those 4 years I can see how far I have come, how much I have learned & experienced, how much I have laughed & cried & equally how challenging but rewarding it has been. BUT IF I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW, I wonder how much smoother some of those “challenging” moments along the way would have been. So I have been inspired to put together & offer to those who have recently moved to Paris or those who are thinking of or planning to move here, some of the insights and learnings I have gained & gathered over the last number of years. I offer:
* Workshops on Cultural Integration to Paris - WELCOME TO PARIS.
* Personal 1:1 coaching face to face or by Skype/phone.
* For those not already living in Paris, I offer 1:1 coaching & mini workshop sessions by Skype/teleconference.
* On this page I offer tips & information to get to know Paris & on integrating & adjusting to life here. Welcome to Paris, Welcome to my page. I look forward to hearing from you. For more information visit my site http://www.anamcoaching.fr

The back to school period or "La Rentrée" as it is called in France is coming up soon!!

Holiday time is very popular and important in the French culture & over the summer months many people go away for several weeks on holidays. It is not a question of "are you going on holidays?" but more "when & where are you going to over the summer?". The most popular period for holidays is between mid July & the end of August & many of the local shops close up for 2,3 or 4 weeks during this period. Paris therefore during this time is very empty (except for tourists), so if you are like me and are in Paris during this period, you get to enjoy walking around the city and the many quiet streets and parks & have it nearly all to yourself!

From next weekend Paris will start to get busy again with all the holiday goers coming back and the local shops and restaurants opening up again as people prepare for the "back to school/back to work" "La Rentréeé"

French/English expression: You know when you can do something really easily, in English you can say "it was a piece of cake" or "it was so easy you could do it with your eyes closed", well in French they say "les doigts dans le nez" which literally translates to " the fingers in the nose" ......try using that sometime when you are chatting next to a French person!

Tomorrow is "La Fête Nationale" in France or "Bastille Day" as it's called in English. This is a public holiday in France & an important national day for the French, which falls on the 14th July every year. Bastille Day commemorates the storming of the Bastille, a Parisian prison, on 14 July, 1789, during the reign of King Louis XVI, and the French Revolution. There will be fire work displays (feu d'artifices) all over the country tonight and tomorrow night to celebrate. Additionally, there are "bal populaire"or "bal des Pompiers" (Fireman Ball in English) in many fire stations all over, where they open the fire stations to the public and have music and dancing and the firemen work as bar men...mmmmmmm

Fancy going to the beach in Paris?
Yes! I did say the beach! For those of you who may be staying around or visiting Paris in July &/or August, thanks to the Paris city council, every summer in July & August (from the 19th July to the 17th August for 2014) various roads along the Seine river & also by The Bassin de la Villette in the northeast of Paris, are closed off & turned into mini beaches, with sand (5000 tons to be exact) & water sprays & palm trees & lots of various activities like salsa dancing, pétanque (French bowling type game), tai chi, sand castle making competitions etc etc

This scheme, called "Paris Plages" was brought in in 2002 by the then Mayor, Bertrand Delanoë to offer a little haven for those "unfortunate" Parisians who had to stay in Paris during the hot & humid period & couldn't get to the "real" beaches elsewhere.

So if you are around during these dates, why not check it out!
