Important anthropo-zoomorphic pendant depicting the bust of a shaman in a state of transformation from man to bird. The arms transform into wings, while the chin extends into a triangular beak. The eyes are set within a broad recessed band that accentuates the frontal intensity of the expression. The head is crowned by a helmet-like headdress prolonged by a sagittal crest, reinforcing the verticality and power of the figure. A suspension hole is pierced in the upper section.

Standing anthropomorphic idol with purified forms, characterized by a highly stylized treatment of the body. The face features deeply incised eyes and mouth, emphasizing the frontal expression. A concave neck clearly marks the transition between the head and the torso. A horizontal incision encircles the body, separating the upper section from the lower zone, while lateral notches indicate the arms pressed against the sides of the figure. The overall piece is distinguished by a deliberately abstract treatment and a remarkable economy of formal means.

Carved hard stone; marks of age.
Mexico, Late Preclassic period, circa 400–100 BC.
20.5 × 5.4 × 4.9 cm

Provenance:
Acquired by its former owner in the 1970s from Galerie Becker, Cannes.

Shamanic mortar depicting a hybrid creature with a cubic body resting on four short legs. At the front appears a feline head with a square muzzle, rendered through incised panels; the mouth is widely open, revealing prominent fangs. At the rear, a strongly projecting monkey tail curls into a spiral. The overall composition favors a synthetic and graphic treatment, emphasizing powerful and stylized volumes.

Anthropomorphic pendant depicting the head of a Maya lord shown in profile. The finely carved face is distinguished by a hieratic expression characteristic of elite representations, with full lips, a strongly defined nose, and almond-shaped eyes. The figure wears an elaborate headdress dominated by a stylized animal figure with an elongated snout and a prominent fang. The ear, integrated into the profile, is adorned with a circular ornament. The overall composition, with its deliberately composite and serpentiform forms, does not allow for a precise iconographic identification.

Green jadeite, carved, polished, and pierced; marks of age.
Maya, Mexico or Guatemala, Late Classic period, circa AD 600–900.
8 × 6.6 cm

Provenance:
Former Guillot-Muñoz collection; by descent.

Cult mask depicting the idealized face of a high-ranking individual, probably a lord or dignitary invested with a ritual function. The modeling is marked by great sobriety, entirely based on the balance of volumes and the accuracy of proportions. The deeply carved almond-shaped eyes, with elongated eyelids, give the gaze an introspective, calm, and vigilant expression. The strongly defined brow ridges structure the face and visually extend the line of the forehead, which is broad, open, and slightly receding; its rigorous construction reflects a search for harmony and measure comparable to the principles of formal organization characteristic of the civilization of Teotihuacan. The nose, short and slightly aquiline, is treated with great finesse; the dilated nostrils, pierced conically, enhance the physical presence of the face while maintaining perfect formal restraint. The open mouth, with full and precisely drawn lips, suggests a subtle smile, evoking a state of plenitude and inner mastery rather than a narrative expression. The overall face conveys an impression of controlled calm and inward presence, achieved through a remarkable economy of formal means.

Pale green limestone with a slightly glossy polished surface, localized ancient oxidation around the eyes, scattered traces of manganese.
Teotihuacan, Valley of Mexico, Classic period, AD 450–650.
15.4 × 17 cm

Anthropomorphic pendant depicting the head of a Maya lord shown in profile. The finely carved face displays a hieratic expression, marked by a strong tension in the features and a deliberate stylization of the visage. The figure wears an elaborate headdress composed of two superimposed animal figures: on the lower section, a raptor with an aquiline beak, and on the upper section, a stylized turtle head. The ear is adorned with a large circular ornament, pierced with small holes along the lower edge, indicating the former attachment of suspended elements now lost.

Anthropomorphic figure depicting a standing character with powerfully modeled features. The face shows a tense and outward expression: half-closed eyes, a wide open mouth forming a pronounced grimace, and cheeks emphasized by two concave lines. The ears are sculpted in relief and the forehead is adorned with a band surmounted by a central circular element. The forearms are strong, with the hands resting on the belly in a nurturing gesture. The deliberate disproportion between the upper body and the legs reinforces the frontal presence and visual impact of the figure.
