This is our latest R&D project in transitory urbanism: we reuse gravel from demolition, pack it in colorful bags made from recycled fabric from a truck, and create playful installations in public spaces. This first step tested the feasibility, design, and costs, and will also assess the installation’s durability over the next few months on site in Évry-Courcouronnes. Looking forward to the next stage!

A sneak peek of our latest public interior project, currently under construction: a science exhibition center within a historic modernist building. Our design approach was to organize the various spaces around the panoramic windows and to follow the existing structural rhythm with a flexible layout that can adapt to different forms of temporary exhibitions.

As part of an embankement renovation project, we designed a series of belvedere-furniture to encourage conversations, by offering a variety of configurations and micro-spaces. Each spaces wwas carefully integrated within the existing landscape and orientated towards different views on the city. The associated visual identity was created to evoke the city’s industrial textile heritage.

We designed a lake amphitheatre as part of a new boardwalk in a formerly abandoned park. Its generous dimensions were carefully planned to turn the amphitheatre into a stage for small community events. Small tables are integrated into the steps, and many visitors use them to enjoy takeaway food from a nearby market.

For one of our public space projects, we designed a playful sundial made of 12 concrete columns of varying heights, functioning as an informal play element encoruaging kids to jump from one to another. It is also an educational installation that explains the concept of a sundials : stand at the center according to the month of the year to read the time of day !

On a site with a complex and fragmented layout, we created a series of active design ‘stations’ featuring colorful signage, inspired by the playful topography and softened by a color palette that echoes the agricultural fields surrounding the city.

Make use of what’s already there! We propose to transform this side road hill of the old national road, now closed to cars, into a playful hill of different climbing elements. These play hills are one of the active design stations planned in the future Mau Park in Saint-Memmie.

The «Parc du Mau» is a landscaped sports park for everyone, designed around the theme of «playful challenge,» catering to children, teenagers, adults, and seniors. Reflecting the identity of Saint-Memmie—between town and fields—the park «repurposes» the site’s unique topography along a national road, and favors tactical active design installations. The park embraces a co-design approach involving two major local sports associations and residents’ organizations. Ici c’est Saint-Memmie!

For a large forest park eco-trail, Orchestra designed 6 themed forest observatories, each dedicated to a specific group of animals which you can encounter in the park. These observatories highlight their unique characteristics, their roles in natural ecosystems, and how to behave when encountering them in the forest. These placemaking installations created natural playful stops for visitors along the trail.

Our temporay urbanism project continues on the Cachan Campus, the former ENS campus! Phase 2 involved creating a welcoming space around two pétanque courts and our seatings made from recycled barriers. The Great Parcours is the first active design hub along the Grande Boucle of Saint-Dizier. Composed of ten obstacles, the parcours is highly demanding and was co-created with the city’s military base. A chronowatch at the start allows to time your run and challenge your friends.

For the Grande Boucle of Saint-Dizier, we designed a set of custom furniture and signages with a uniting visual identity. In particular, the «0km» large circular «seating plan» was designed to make the running loop visible to all.
