The vineyards were first planted in the 13th century by Bertrand de Goth, the youngest son of a noble family from Bordeaux. He was elected Pope in 1305, during the reign of Philippe le Bel, and took the name of Clément V. Château Pape Clément belonged to the Archbishop of Bordeaux until the French Revolution. Château Pape-Clément is the first acquisition of Bernard Magrez who kept reinterpreting t

his Pope wine-maker philosophy and work. Wine has been made here continuously for 7 centuries.

Histoire mythique que celle du Château Pape-Clément, l’un des plus anciens Grands Crus de Bordeaux. Son vignoble a été implanté au 13ème siècle. Bertrand de Goth, cadet d’une noble lignée, devenu Pape en 1305 sous le nom de Clément V durant le règne de Philippe le Bel en est devenu propriétaire. Le Château Pape-Clément est la première acquisition de Bernard Magrez qui n’a cessé depuis de réinterpréter le travail et la philosophie de ce pape vigneron. Ce domaine peut s’enorgueillir de produire un vin d’excellence sur les mêmes terres depuis sept siècles et d’avoir su garder intacte son identité en dépit de successifs propriétaires et d’une pression urbaine toujours plus menaçante.
