THE BUSINESS
By thermal decomposition, or pyrolisis, Biochar Generation transforms wood residues to produce biochar, an excellent soils amendment, ecological and renewable. This is how we can help bring to life a promising, problems solving, new industry. With mass production of biochar, we can make soils fertile on a large scale, better manage organic residues, retain water for agriculture, and,
be carbon-negative. Biochar can also be used in materials (concrete, asphalt, plastics, etc.). Cbiochar Inc collaborates with the forest industry and forest regions to value woody residues. The company will also use logs left standing after forest fires, giving it an almost infinite supply of biomass (the biggest quantity available on one site in the world). Among promising venues, it will help prepare future sites for reforestation and offer its services to private owners, villages, golf clubs to « cook » their wood residues transforming them into valuable biochar. Biochar Generation aims at insuring the commercialisation of biochar with the support of scientists in agriculture and horticulture, gardeners, greenhouses enterprises and organic farmers. Biochar Generation business plan is based on revenues from the selling of biochar; the safe elimination of wood residues without flames or smoke; consultancy services with the sale of carbon credits. Other revenue sources will be considered: green energy production (heat or fuel), additive for animal feed, remediation of mine sites, the filtration of water in fish farms or for lakes’ de-pollution, among others. He lived 18 years in Geneva where he taught sustainable development and international conventions on the environment in two universities. He then brought his teaching to carbon credits trainings in the world of finance. From 2001 to 2009, Benoit lead the Worldwatch Institute French branch in Geneva as a publisher and editor of L’État de la planète (State of the World annual report and World Watch magazine). Benoit also has a long working experience in Canadian reforestation. Back in Quebec, in 2010 he has presented a memoir to the Park Environment and Sustainable Development Ministry and produced an opportunity analysis for the First Nations Forestry Sector of Quebec. Benoit has done various local and international presentations on biochar.
