🇬🇧 🇵🇱 Another addition to the RAF in Combat collection: Squadron Leader Józef Żulikowski DFC and his North American Mustang Mk. III KH507 of No. 306 (Polish) Squadron, flown from Andrews Field in spring 1945.

A pre-war Polish Air Force pilot and instructor, Żulikowski escaped through France to Britain in 1940. He joined No. 306 Squadron and later served as a flight commander before taking command of No. 308 (Polish) Squadron in 1943.

Returning to No. 306 Squadron as its commanding officer in September 1944, he led the Mustang-equipped unit through the final months of the war. On 9 April 1945, Żulikowski claimed a Messerschmitt Me 262 destroyed, his final victory and a notable success against the Luftwaffe’s jet fighter. He finished the war with three confirmed victories and one probable and received the DFC in August 1945.

🇫🇷 🇵🇱 Un nouveau print rejoint la collection RAF in Combat : il met à l’honneur le Squadron Leader Józef Żulikowski DFC et son North American Mustang Mk. III KH507 du No. 306 (Polish) Squadron, basé à Andrews Field au printemps 1945.

Pilote et instructeur de l’aviation polonaise avant-guerre, Żulikowski gagne la Grande-Bretagne via la France en 1940. Il rejoint le No. 306 Squadron, où il devient flight commander, avant de prendre le commandement du No. 308 (Polish) Squadron en 1943.

De retour au No. 306 Squadron comme commandant en septembre 1944, il dirige l’unité sur Mustang durant les derniers mois de la guerre. Le 9 avril 1945, Żulikowski revendique la destruction d’un Messerschmitt Me 262, sa dernière victoire et un succès notable contre le chasseur à réaction de la Luftwaffe. 🇬🇧 🇵🇱 Another addition to the RAF in Combat collection: Group Captain Tadeusz Nowierski DFC and his North American Mustang Mk. III HB866 of No. 133 (Polish) Wing, flown from Andrews Field during the winter of 1944–1945.

Originally a bomber pilot in the pre-war Polish Air Force, Nowierski retrained as a fighter pilot after reaching Britain and joined No. 609 Squadron in August 1940. He scored his first victory within days and became an ace during the Battle of Britain.

He later served with No. 316 Squadron, commanded No. 308 Squadron and rose to senior positions within the Polish fighter wings. In 1943, he took command of what became No. 133 (Polish) Wing, leading the formation through its transition to Mustangs and remaining at its head until February 1945.

Initialement pilote de bombardement dans l’aviation polonaise, Nowierski se reconvertit comme pilote de chasse après son arrivée en Grande-Bretagne et rejoint le No. 609 Squadron en août 1940. Il remporte sa première victoire quelques jours plus t**d et devient un as durant la bataille d’Angleterre.

Il sert ensuite au No. 316 Squadron, commande le No. 308 Squadron puis occupe plusieurs postes importants au sein des wings polonais. En 1943, il prend la tête de la formation qui devient le No. 133 (Polish) Wing, qu’il dirige durant son passage sur Mustang et jusqu’en février 1945.

🇬🇧 🇵🇱 Another addition to the RAF in Combat collection: Squadron Leader Tadeusz Andersz DFC and his North American Mustang Mk. III FB357 of No. 315 (Polish) Squadron, flown from Andrews Field in spring 1945.

Evacuated from Poland in 1939, Andersz completed his fighter training in France and briefly fought there before reaching Britain. He joined No. 315 Squadron in 1941, later becoming a flight commander and claiming his first victory, an Fw 190 over Normandy.

In 1944, Andersz gained the unusual experience of flying with the USAAF’s 61st Fighter Squadron on Thunderbolts before returning to command No. 315 Squadron on Mustangs. He led the unit until April 1945 and received the DFC later that year.

🇬🇧 🇵🇱 Another addition to the RAF in Combat collection: Wing Commander Jan Zumbach DFC and his North American Mustang Mk. III HB866 of No. 133 (Polish) Wing, flown from Andrews Field in October 1944.

After fighting briefly in France, Zumbach reached Britain in June 1940 and joined the legendary No. 303 (Polish) Squadron during the Battle of Britain, becoming one of its most successful pilots. He later commanded the squadron and received the DFC and Bar.

In August 1944, Zumbach became Wing Leader of the Mustang-equipped No. 133 (Polish) Wing. His final claim, an Fw 190 probably destroyed on 25 September, brought his wartime tally to fourteen confirmed victories, five probables and one damaged.

🇬🇧 🇵🇱 Another addition to the RAF in Combat collection: Group Captain Tadeusz Rolski DSO and his North American Mustang Mk. III HB822 of No. 133 (Polish) Wing, flown from Andrews Field in spring 1945.

A veteran officer of the pre-war Polish Air Force, Rolski was one of the most successful Polish fighter pilots of the September 1939 campaign. After escaping through France to Britain, he commanded No. 306 (Polish) Squadron and later became Wing Leader of the Polish Northolt Wing. In 1942, he became the first non-British officer to be made a Companion of the DSO.

Rolski later formed and commanded the famous Polish Fighting Team in North Africa. In February 1945, he took command of the Mustang-equipped No. 133 (Polish) Wing, which he led until its disbandment in August.

🇬🇧 🇵🇱 Another addition to the RAF in Combat collection: Squadron Leader Stanisław Łapka and his North American Mustang Mk. III FZ180 of No. 306 (Polish) Squadron, flown from Coolham in May 1944.

One of the first Polish pilots to join RAF Fighter Command in 1940, Łapka fought throughout the Battle of Britain with No. 302 (Polish) Squadron. Rising to command the squadron in 1942, he established himself as one of the experienced leaders of the Polish fighter force.

Returning to operations in early 1944, Łapka took command of No. 306 (Polish) Squadron. He scored his final victory over a Bf 109 on 7 June 1944, but was shot down the same day. After successfully evading capture and returning to Britain, he flew no further operational missions.

🇬🇧 Another addition to the RAF in Combat collection: a second look at Wing Commander Stanisław Skalski DSO DFC and his North American Mustang Mk. III FZ152 of No. 133 (Polish) Wing. This artwork depicts the same aircraft featured in our previous release, but as it appeared 2 months later, during the Normandy campaign in June 1944. Freshly-applied invasion stripes have been added, while weeks of intensive operations have left the Mustang noticeably more weathered, reflecting the relentless pace of operations over Europe.

The pilot, however, remains the same. Poland's highest-scoring fighter ace, Skalski claimed his final two victories on 24 June 1944 while leading No. 133 (Polish) Wing, bringing his wartime total to 24 confirmed victories. This print captures both the evolution of his famous Mustang and one of the most intense periods of its operational career.

Cette illustration représente le même appareil que notre précédent print, mais tel qu'il apparaissait deux mois plus t**d, durant la campagne de Normandie en juin 1944. Les bandes d'invasion recouvrent désormais les ailes et le fuselage, tandis que plusieurs semaines d'opérations intensives ont laissé un avion nettement plus marqué par l'usure et les rigueur des opérations de combat.

Poland's highest-scoring fighter ace of the Second World War, Skalski first distinguished himself during the 1939 campaign before escaping to Britain, where he became one of the outstanding Polish pilots of the Battle of Britain. His exceptional leadership later saw him command several Polish fighter squadrons, the famous Polish Fighting Team in North Africa, and No. 601 Squadron.

In 1944, he took command of the Mustang-equipped No. 133 (Polish) Wing. During the Normandy campaign, he claimed his final two victories on 24 June, bringing his wartime score to 24 confirmed victories. Awarded the DSO and two Bars to his DFC, Skalski remains one of the greatest fighter leaders to serve with the RAF.

🇬🇧 🇵🇱 Another addition to the RAF in Combat collection: Squadron Leader Bohdan Arct and his North American Mustang Mk. III FX903 of No. 316 (Polish) Squadron, flown from Coltishall in September 1944.

Mobilised at the outbreak of war, Arct escaped first to Romania and then France before eventually reaching Britain, where he retrained as a fighter pilot. After serving with No. 306 Squadron and the Polish Fighting Team in North Africa, he built a successful combat record flying Spitfires, claiming victories over Bf 109s during the Tunisian campaign.

In 1944, as commanding officer of No. 316 (Polish) Squadron, he converted to the Mustang Mk. III and added two V-1 flying bombs and a Bf 109 to his score—the latter being the squadron's first confirmed Bf 109 victory. Shot down over the Netherlands in September 1944 after engine failure, he spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner of war.

Après avoir servi au No. 306 Squadron et au sein du Polish Fighting Team en Afrique du Nord, il se distingue sur Spitfire en remportant plusieurs succès contre des Bf 109 durant la campagne de Tunisie.

En 1944, devenu commandant du No. 316 Squadron, il passe sur Mustang Mk. III et ajoute à son palmarès deux bombes volantes V-1 ainsi qu’un Bf 109, première victoire confirmée de ce type pour l’escadron. Contraint de sauter en parachute au-dessus des Pays-Bas à la suite d'une panne moteur en septembre 1944, il passe le reste de la guerre en captivité.

A former Polish Air Force instructor, Pietrzak fought during the 1939 campaign before escaping through France to Britain, where he joined No. 306 (Polish) Squadron in 1941. Flying Spitfires and later Mustangs, he became one of the leading Polish fighter pilots, completing two operational tours and earning the DFC in 1944.

Promoted to flight commander with No. 315 Squadron, he scored his final victory over an Fw 190 in September 1944, bringing his total to nine confirmed victories and five V-1 flying bombs destroyed. In 1945, he took command of No. 309 (Polish) Squadron, leading the unit until its disbandment in 1947.
