🗳 The recent electoral success of the French far-right party in the European parliamentary elections has significantly emboldened the overt expression of racist and xenophobic views. Once cautious about publicly sharing such opinions, openly racist citizens now freely voice their beliefs, feeling legitimized by these growing political victories.
💔 As someone born in France to immigrant parents, I find myself both unsurprised and deeply disturbed by this development. The bigotry I have personally encountered is now being openly validated by these political gains. Those who previously doubted my experiences of racism or belittled my accounts of degrading job interviews are now faced with undeniable evidence of widespread intolerance.
