Yesterday I was delighted to deliver my lecture entitled:
Geological CO2 Storage: Geochemical and Geomechanical Aspects
for the course: Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) of the MSc Energy Transition Systems and Technologies at the University of Aberdeen, UK.
The lecture was about the integrated geomechanical and geochemical analysis necessary for the design of safe CO2 injection operations. During the lecture I emphasised the point that such integrated workflow constitutes a thorough assurance tool against the risk of CO2 leak.
I am convinced that, given the great storage potential of the UK Continental Shelf, the Geological CO2 Storage technology will be crucial to achieve Scotland’s and UK’s Net Zero targets in 2045 and 2050 respectively.
Many thanks to Dr. Prashant Jadhawar (Course Coordinator) for inviting me to deliver this lecture.
Many thanks also to all postgraduates in the attendance, I am convinced they will write a new exciting chapter in the Aberdeen and the North Sea energy story.
