The business has since developed and now supplies bands and individuals throughout the world. John was tutored from an early age by Pipe Major William Rugg of the Gordon Highlanders. He quickly joined the ranks of the Oldmeldrum Royal British Legion Pipe Band under the then leadership of Ian Blair, and ex Scots Guards piper who offered John invaluable advice and tuition. John has competed in most

grades in the Pipe Band world, latterly spending 6 successful seasons in the Tayside Police Pipe Band 3 of which playing at Grade 1 level, the highest level in the Pipe Band world. John was a member of the band during their triumphant reign of 2005-2007 when the band enjoyed great success in Grade 2, finally being promoted to the elite Grade 1 at the end of 2007. John is currently a piper in Denny & Dunnipace Pipe Band under the leadership of Dave Clunie. One of John’s greatest achievements to date is the design and manufacture of his very own pipe chanter, developed to meet the higher pitch playing requirements of today’s Pipe Bands. The success of his chanter has been proven through the many bands which have now adopted this comfortable and reliable chanter achieving great competing success and judging reviews. John has continued to develop his unique chanter and now offers a solo piping chanter which meets the same high tonal and balance qualities as the poly ‘band’ chanter. Johns experience and knowledge combines to produce a personal and trusting service to all his clients.
