Across Qatar's offshore sector, leading energy operators and drilling contractors, such as QatarEnergy, QatarEnergy LNG, and Gulf Drilling International (GDI), are not just talking about safety, competence, and standards; they're actively investing in them. These organizations are enhancing the readiness and confidence of their personnel in critical safety functions by utilizing SAFER Trainingβs Virtual Marine cutting-edge Lifeboat Coxswain simulator.
No longer must trainees launch lifeboats into the water, thanks to regulator-approved simulation technology; coxswains now train in a risk-free, fully immersive environment.
The simulator replicates the most important tasks a coxswain may face: launching and maneuvering a survival craft to safety during an emergency.
π« No risk to personnel.
π€ No wear and tear on actual lifeboats.
β
More time behind the helm.
Unlike conventional lifeboat training, which often limits launch practice to a single attempt, our simulator allows every trainee to execute at least five full launch sequences. This not only reinforces procedural competence but also saves time, elevates operational realism, and deepens each learnerβs confidence in their ability to lead under pressure.
Approved by maritime regulators (IMO) and certified by OPITO standards, this greener and safer methodology supports a safer and greener impactful way of learning:
π Certified, Sustainable, and Effective.
π Launching lifeboats at night
πͺοΈ Training in fog, sandstorms, rain, or high winds
π Responding to variable sea states
π‘ Practicing emergency radio communications
βοΈ Learning in climate-controlled conditions, outside Qatarβs harsh weather
π Reducing environmental impactβno diesel spills, no emissions
π° Saving time and cost, all while achieving measurable competence
π Certification Pathways
All trainees are assessed to OPITO standards. Those who meet OPITO prerequisites receive the OPITO Lifeboat Coxswain Certificate. Others may be awarded the Advanced Coxswain Training (ACT) certificate, supporting compliance with:
MODU Code 14.12.4.3 (2009)
MSC.1/Circ.1486
STCW Code A-VI/2, para 5
ISM Code 8.2 (2010 Edition)
Our simulator technology is based full-time at RelyOn (Middle East) in Doha, serving operators across Qatarβs waters and the wider Middle East region. In a sector where competence saves lives, Qatarβs energy leaders have committed fully, and SAFER Training and our partners are proud to support that mission.
