Offshore wind development is accelerating across Southeast and East Asia, bringing new opportunities alongside increasing operational demands. As projects grow in scale, move further offshore and rely more on helicopters and Service Operation Vessels, ensuring personnel are fully prepared for these environments is becoming increasingly important.

In our latest blog, Ooi SuanHoe, OPITO’s Senior Vice President, Strategic Partnerships (APAC), shares his perspective on why Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) is becoming essential for offshore wind personnel across the region.

Ooi explores the major trends shaping Asia’s offshore wind landscape, the rise in helicopter operations, and the evolving safety considerations that accompany rapid growth. He also highlights how OPITO’s global training standards provide a consistent, trusted framework that strengthens safety culture and supports a competent, confident and mobile workforce.

This week the OPITO team were proud to be exhibiting at All-Energy in Glasgow, connecting with stakeholders from across the energy and safety-critical sectors and focusing on one key theme: skills delivery at scale.

Our Director of Skills Policy, Michael Love, contributed to two important discussions, challenging the industry to move beyond strategies and demonstrate real, measurable workforce outcomes, from creating clear pathways for young people and career changers, to ensuring skills systems are aligned with where projects are being delivered. While also exploring the shift from sector-specific thinking to integrated energy systems, highlighting how transferable skills can support workforce mobility across the energy mix and why a unified workforce approach is critical to accelerating deployment.

Alongside this, it was inspiring to see the next generation stepping forward, with APTUS apprentice Lauren Beveridge and former apprentice Lara Pitcaithly sharing their first-hand experiences of entering and progressing in the industry, and My Energy Future Champion Cynthia Bassey taking part in a live Q&A on careers in energy at the Women in New Energy Lounge.

Thank you to everyone we connected with over the event, we look forward to continuing these important conversations to ensure safety-critical industries workforces remain safe, skilled and future-ready.
