Sovereign capability is critical to JFD’s provision of Australia’s submarine rescue system, a fully-integrated, air-transportable service that is “rescue ready” at all times to save the lives of defence personnel in the event of a disabled submarine.

As the established, trusted partner of the Royal Australian Navy, our number one priority is keeping Australia’s submariners safe - a sovereign capability on stand-by to save lives.

It was a real honour for members of JFD Australia to attend the annual Navy Clearance Diver Trust (NCDT) event last night and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Clearance Diving Branch.

Aptly titled “Leadership Under Pressure” and held at Manly Wharf overlooking Sydney Harbour where every clearance diver commences their career, the event acknowledged the ongoing efforts of clearance divers who work in some of the world’s most demanding and dangerous environments.

Congratulations from JFD to the NCDT for its tireless efforts to support past and present clearance divers and their families.

Keeping people safe underwater will always be our shared number one priority.

As Australia’s long-term and tested provider of the nation’s submarine rescue system, a key sovereign capability, it is important that every aspect of the system is regularly tested and measured against world’s best practice to ensure it is always “rescue ready”.

Pleased to say that after a week of intensive ocean exercises the system performed exceptionally well!

Training on the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) - the first part of the system to be used in an emergency as it dives down to locate a disabled submarine, sending critical information up to the water’s surface - was completed successfully.

And the submarine recovery team continued exercising their launch and recovery procedures resulting in several people gaining high-level qualifications to participate in a submarine rescue. This is also critical in making sure we have highly skilled personnel on stand-by to activate the system if it is ever called up.

Well done all on a great effort.

Congratulations to Ryan Wilson, Manager of Submarine Solutions for an outstanding presentation at the recent SubSTEC8 conference in Adelaide organised by the Submarine Institute of Australia.

Ryan oversees JFD’s submarine rescue system, a sovereign capability that is ‘rescue ready’ at all times to attend to a submarine emergency anywhere in the world.

Ryan’s presentation focused on the best ways to ensure the system is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our defence forces, highlighting the particular need for crewed platforms in a future capability.

JFD, as the established provider of submarine rescue systems internationally including NATO, India, Singapore and Korea are pleased to be a thought leader in this sector with its unwavering top priority of keeping submariners safe.

JFD Australia is proud to again support the Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA) at its annual conference which starts next week in Adelaide.

With the theme “Pillar1 through a Pillar 2 lens - Advanced AUKUS capabilities and the submarine deterrent”, JFD Australia’s Manager of Submarine Solutions, Ryan Wilson will present on the best ways for Australia to support the evolution of its submarine rescue system to ensure it is at optimal operational levels at all times to help in the event of a submarine emergency.

The rescue system is a world class sovereign capability JFD has provided to the Royal Australian Navy for the past 15 years and importantly, it is agnostic which means it can assist in the rescue of personnel from almost every type of submarine.

A key factor as we move closer to AUKUS.

See you in Adelaide next week.

JFD has provided Australia’s trusted and reliable submarine rescue system for more than 15 years.

This sovereign capability is on stand-by and “rescue ready” from our Australian headquarters in Perth to help save the crew of a disabled submarine anywhere in the world.

To ensure its ongoing effectiveness and efficiency, it’s imperative that it’s regularly put to the test in underwater exercises.

The piloted LR5 submersible is a key part of the rescue system as it dives down to attach onto a disabled submarine to extract the crew safely under pressure and bring them back to the oceans’s surface.

Recently, the LR5 successfully completed in-water training at Cockburn Sound, south of Perth, Western Australia conducting 15 dives over eight days with 42 hours of dive time.

A massive achievement that showcased the capability of the rescue system and allowed valuable training for our highly trained team of engineers and tradespeople.

Well done to everyone who participated - a great display of teamwork.
