3rd Driven Day and the Grand Finale 📯

I try not to build expectation on many of my trips and especially hunts because there are so many things at play. However, I do find myself dreaming of what that perfect hunt could be like🦄

Yesturday was always going to be a day of wonderment as it was also the Grand Finale of the 1st series which I sorely wanted to be a part of.

So I wished my fellow competitors the best of luck but my reason for competing is to compliment my hunting so really the decision was easy

The days hunt would quickly surpass any expectation anyone could have on a driven hunt! 🤩 Especially a federal forest station/fair chase hunt

I managed to bag my (apparently- German standard) brace of roe deer. The 1st coming within the initial 5 mins of being in our stand (I was still setting up) the second came 15min later.

Our 3rd animal the holly grail and our 🥇 wild boar 🐗 the main goal for my trip was with in 45mins of starting the drive 💪

Then came 2 more 🐗 as singles which made it easier to capitalise on even if I did miss with one of my shots 🥴

My 3rd and final 🐗 for the day was a peach of a shot and the typical “driven shot” everyone dreams 💭 of 🤩💪

To cap off the drive we had a 4th roe deer which did require a track of 400 - 500m where we found that another hunter had finished the job and collected the roe 👌

So in total an amazing 4x roe and 3x wildboar - what a drive, what an experience and what a trip

Day 3 (2nd Driven Day) A very beautiful location and we had 2x drives this day rather than the standard 1x which meant we got to see even more of it 🤩

The 1st drive was very quiet for everyone, however we did see and fox 🦊 which would have “got it” but they are not on the quarry list for these hunts

We paused between drives back at the viaduct for classic German sausage cooked over a fire 🔥 pit which had been dug into the ground in the morning

The second drive was busier - I managed to bag my “brace of roe deer” although we only managed to capture one on video as the other came running right towards us and we darent move. The guy on the stand next to us got a large boar 🐗 so they are getting closer 🤗

Hopefully today is our day?🤞…….

So Day 2 was a morning and evening sat in a highseat with produced 2x roe deer on both sittings 💪

It was lovely to sit and listen to the wood peckers, watch a pair of 🦊 frolicking and hearing a European Eagle Owl hooting on the darkening 👀

Still no 🐗 seen though

Our Germany 🇩🇪 trip has been fantastic so far!….

Day 1 - Driven Hunting was a baptism of fire (not for us though 🤦‍♂️😂) That was my own fault though due to not understanding properly. I gleaned some knowledge 🧠 from an old school forestry 🌲🌳 hunter 🐗 🦌 Who advised me to let the roe deer come past first if I wanted to shoot wild boar

So I passed up on the opportunity to shot 1x roe possible 2x as a group of 4x 🦌 ran past at about 60m as soon as we had settled into our stand.

5mins ⏰ later and our 1st and only sighting of pigs 🐗 came as a small group of 6-8 crashed through the vegetation and stopped about 100m down wind of us. They all balled up, not presenting a good shot and I waited for them to take a few more steps into an open shooting area, but they smelt something wasn’t right‼️ About turned and were gone up to our neighbour (the old wise hunter 🦉 ) who at least made something of them 🫡

Some vital practice and preparation at the “Shooting Cinema” here in Germany ahead of tomorrow’s driven hunt

The weather forecast is encouraging 🤗

Thanks for your patience 😂…..

Picture paints 1000 words, hopefully 🤞

Here I demo the practical application of shooting with both eyes open but scope cap obscuring my vision through the sighting system and I am still able to hit the 🎯!

50/50 hit percentage once the lens cap is open so more practice needed 👊 Hopefully we can get into the shooting cinema when we arrive in Germany 🇩🇪 🤞

Shoot with both 👀 open!

If the concept doesn’t boggle your mind 🤪my description of the process probably will 🙊

Please bare with me though …..
