Meet Samson Balogun, CEO of The Neglected Disease Eradication Campaign (NEDEC), and a passionate advocate in infectious disease control across Nigeria. With over five years of experience in public health advocacy, particularly in zoonotic disease control, Samson has leveraged his extensive background in biomedical science to address critical health challenges. As a parasitology graduate from Aberystwyth University and a current PhD candidate at Norwich University, Samson’s innovative research has led to the development of cost-effective diagnostics for Cryptosporidiosis and the advancement of the first commercially available Cryptosporidium vaccine.

Samson is committed to empowering farmers with the knowledge and tools they need to protect their livelihoods. He stated that: “Empowering farmers with knowledge and resources is crucial to preventing the spread of avian influenza, and innovation is key to ensuring we leave no one behind.”
Through his leadership, NEDEC will continue to prioritize the needs of rural farmers, providing essential resources to combat avian flu and other infectious diseases.

📢 Meet Our Principal Investigator: Dr. Edore Akpokodje

🧑‍🔬We are proud to introduce Dr. Edore Akpokodje, our Principal Investigator with over 15 years of experience at the National Veterinary Research Institute of Nigeria. Dr. Akpokodje’s work has been instrumental in driving innovative ICT solutions for farmers, including mobile technology and environmental sensors and now he’s leading our efforts to enhance avian influenza awareness among Nigerian smallholder poultry farmers.

As our Principal Investigator, Dr. Akpokodje said: “Poultry is essential for the economy and food security in Nigeria, providing a crucial source of animal protein and vital resources for low-income households. The project aims to improve Nigerian smallholder farmers’ awareness of avian influenza.By offering expert advice, surveillance data, and sharing best practice, the platform seeks to improve disease management and ensure the sustainability of Nigeria's poultry industry, as well as the health of farmers and ecosystems”.

This initiative is more than just research, it’s about empowering farmers with the tools and knowledge they need to protect their livelihoods and secure a better future for their communities.
