On this day, 82 years ago, P-51D Mustang
'Marinell' was lost in combat over France.

On 13 August 1944, Lt Myer Winkelman took P-51D-5-NA Mustang serial 44-13521, on a Rhubarb mission to France. Departing from the home of the 339th Fighter Group at Fowlmere.

In the early evening, at around 18:30, the Mustang was lost near Feuquières in the North of France.

Tragically Lt Myer Winkelman was killed.

P51 'Marinell' had previously only been with the 339th Fighter Group for only 45 days, during that short time it was credited with four enemy aircraft kills, 2 FW190s and 2 ME109s.

P51 Mustang "Marinell" flys with

I felt extremely privileged to fly with Castel and Caf from the French Air Force. Primarily Rafale pilots, Castel and Caf today were in the the PC21. I love how you can see the discipline in their flight next to me. Watch Castel join on the outside. He deliberately moves only in one dimension at a time. They felt glued to my wings! Incredible experience. Thank you so much!
