Making the parts is only half the job. The real test is getting everything to come together and work exactly as it should. ⚙️

That’s why our component assembly is carried out in a temperature-controlled environment, with every assembly carefully put together and rigorously tested before it leaves us.

From individual assembly kit parts to complex zero-backlash, fine-pitch epicyclic gearboxes and differential bevel gearboxes, we make sure the finished assembly performs reliably.

Internal teeth, tight clearances and more complex geometries can make the usual approach a little tricky. ⚙️

That's why we offer gear shaping, using carbide shaping cutters and multi-cutter set-ups to produce complex gear geometries to ISO Grade 5 accuracy.

It gives us the flexibility to tackle the parts that aren't quite so straightforward, and the precision to make sure they perform reliably.

Spotted in the skies over Europe. 👀

While on a business trip, our Commercial Director Ollie captured this Swiss Air ( Swiss International Air Lines ) A220 coming in to land.

You can’t see them from the outside, but our gear sets are working inside the aircraft’s braking system, forming part of the Electro-Mechanical Actuators (EMAs). There are four EMAs on each wheel, with eight on each side of the main landing gear.

We also manufacture the reverse thrust wormshafts and wormwheels housed within the nacelle, helping the reverse thrust system slow the aircraft down after landing.

Together, these two systems work in harmony to bring an aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of around 70 tonnes safely to a stop.

Pretty cool to see something we manufacture doing its job in the real world.

We’ve been manufacturing precision gears and components for defence applications for decades, supporting some of the biggest names in the industry. ⚙️

From small gears used in actuators and reverse thrust systems to larger gears for jet engine fuel pumps, our components have an important job to do.

But defence technology is constantly evolving, and the components within these applications have to evolve with it. That's why we continue developing our engineering capabilities - to deliver the precision and reliability these applications demand, now and as requirements change.

Watching the Saudi Hawks tear across the sky at Farnborough International Airshow , it was hard not to think about what sits behind something that looks so effortless. ✈️

We see apprenticeships as a great way to build the skills we need for the future ⚙️

Working with Farnborough College of Technology and other providers, we give young people and career changers hands-on experience in manufacturing, helping them build skills for the aerospace and defence industries.

Alongside bringing in apprentices each year, we also support full-time college students with 12-week placements to help them finish their studies and get valuable industry experience.

It’s all about building future talent and supporting the local community - something we’re proud to be part of.

We're able to achieve ISO grade 5 accuracy straight off process, meaning components don’t need any secondary finishing before they’re ready for use.

That level of precision helps keep production efficient, reduces lead times and avoids unnecessary extra cost further down the line!

Some of the most important parts on an aircraft are the ones nobody sees. ✈️

Take our primary and secondary matched fuel pump gear sets and engine driveshafts for example, they help drive the Airbus A350's twin Rolls-Royce plc XWB engines.

As we reflect on Aviation Day, it’s a good opportunity to recognise the precision engineering that quietly keeps the world connected, one flight at a time.
