Where has time gone? 25 years ago today we started Harlequin Stained Glass. We started working from home at the bottom of our garden but quickly realised we needed premises and moved to Alfreton, 2 workshops later we are now based on Marshall Street. We would like to thank all of our customers and other tradesmen for all your support over the years and look forward to many more years of creating beautiful stained glass 🙂

Sometimes part of our work is having to replace old painted pieces that are irrepairable with new painted pieces. Obviously they will look newer than the original but they help with the overall look of the panel rather than looking at gaps or broken pieces.

Here's a canal barge panel with lots of colour that was a recent commission. To add more detail we painted the bridge and the man's clothing. When we paint, it then has to be kiln fired to make the paint permanent.

Sometimes we have jobs that are a challenge and this was one of them. A local church had been broken into and the bottom of the panel was smashed into small bits and all the lead bent and twisted. As often happens with old panels there isn't good clear photographic evidence of the panels so alot of the repair is guesswork. It's almost impossible to have a glass match so we pick the nearest colour available, obviously the new parts look very clean compared to the rest of the panel that has years of dirt and grime on it, but with time it will dull down. We have a great sense of achievement when its refitted and the panel will hopefully continue to show the original art for many more years.
