Upcoming events at the Speirs Centre this month!
📖 Monday 8 June 2026, 10:30-11:30, Speirs Centre, Library Mezzanine
• Event: Talk – “Lunch at Alfredo’s” by Monika Wood
Meet local author Monika Wood who will be reading passages from her newly published paperback “Lunch at Alfredo’s”. The talk will be followed by a short Q&A session. This will be an Informal, interactive session and just like Alfredo’s in the novel will allow you to observe, reflect and dream.
🪴 Wednesday 10 & Thursday 11 June 2026, Speirs Centre, Library
• Event: Drop-in activity – Get creative and name a plant in the library
Pop in during Great Big Green Week to pick up a plant label from the library desk. Select a plant and give it a catchy name. You may even wish to draw it or take a photo of it. Library staff will pop the label on the one you select. Come back next visit and watch how the plant has grown.
📚 Friday 12 & Saturday 13 June 2026, Speirs Centre, Library
• Event: Pop-up book sale – a range of old ex-stock items, many genres, in various conditions.
Help the library recycle some of its old books. Items are sold as seen. Come along and take a look. “Give what you can payment” system.
☕💬 Tuesday 16 June 2026, 14:00 – 15:00 approx, Speirs Centre, Library
• Event: Coffee and conversation hour, Refugee week
As part of this year’s Simple Acts campaign for Refugee Week 15-21 June, staff at the Speirs are holding a coffee and conversation hour in the Library. Jointly organised by the Library & Forth Valley Welcome teams, friendly staff will lead the conversation. During the hour, you'll be able to discuss a range of books that tell of lived experiences of refugees. There will also be an opportunity to look at a linked book display, join and/or borrow books.
