Lovely write up from Rotary Club of Tain and Easter Ross after yesterdays site visit -
Visit to Northern Recycling Solutions Ltd, Alness
Yesterday afternoon a group of club members gathered at Alexander House, Teaninich Industrial Estate in Alness where we were given a comprehensive tour of the recycling facility there by Katie Mount. We were all struck by just how many different types of waste they take in, sort and send out for recycling. With 3 large sheds, sorters, ancillary buildings and all the silos where items are stored ahead of sorting, it is incredible how everything fits so well into a site of just over 2 acres. We were all impressed by how tidy everything was and it was very clear the staff take a great deal of pride in their work and working environment. Safety in such a working environment is of paramount importance and Katie explained how lorries and skips bring waste materials, everything from cardboard to concrete and plastic to post and wire fencing, on to the site, take it through the weighbridge and then to the relevant storage silos where it is stored pending preparation for recycling. I wonder just how many soft drinks cans it takes to fill a half ton crushed load!
We were left with the clear impression that if people make the effort, there really is very little which cannot be successfully recycled.
