Kidland Forest - October 2026

Our ongoing Kidland Forest contract is progressing well with Phase 2 nearing completion.

As seen in the photos, a very difficult job undertaken professionally by our contractor, Blacklock Harvesting.

Also shown is the devastation a storm, in this case Arwen in 2021, can inflict on a forest but with the right team in place, the site is ready for replanting

Throwback Thursday

Here we see two interesting photos of our Timberjack 6-wheel Forwarder taken in 1992.

The first shows a large tree length oak being extracted to roadside (note the spiral grain which is a major defect) on Hendersyde Estate, Kelso and the second a load of mixed grade sycamore heading for presentation on Mertoun Estate, St Boswells.

A truly versatile machine, it was a real asset to our Round Timber Department and features in several of our past throwback photos.

Some of our team recently visited Mill 10 to see first-hand how much progress has been made.

It was a great opportunity to look around the new mill, see the machinery installations taking shape and get a feel for the scale of the project.

Exciting to see it all coming together! 🏗️🌲

Throwback Thursday

These two photos, taken in April 2016 are of the late David Purvis with his pride and joy - his 6 x 4 x double drive bullnose Scania low loader outfit.

David was involved with many civil engineering projects for us over the years, providing heavy plant and tippers along with useful advice on planning.

He sadly passed away in June 2022 but his legacies here are still with us.

📸Taken from outside Station House, around 1970, the photos of the six wagons; four Atkinsons, one AEC and one Bedford, interestingly show our Derrick crane behind Mill 2.

This was mentioned in the throwback of 13th August and in the photo of the Foden, taken around 10 years later, the Derrick has been replaced by the overhead gantry crane which ran until the mid-1990's.

Mill 3 can also be seen as well as the then office which is now used by the maintenance department.

This week we head back to the mid 1960's where we see 4 action shots taken in Mill 1.

All circular saws with hands on skilled sawyers, an important tailer and post pointer.

The main markets were, from softwood fence posts and rails and from hardwood, pit chocks and other mining components.

📸Everything is on target for first log week commencing 1st February 2027.

🪵Our homegrown hardwood division was one of the largest in the country at the time and needed the best available outfits to load and transport big logs.

🪵This photo cc 1990 shows our 2 double drive Foden tractor units with Jonsered 21/18 tonne cranes driven by Colin Pagan and Stevie Patterson dual lifting a load of large Oak logs.

🌲Welcoming Alnwick Young Farmers Club to A&J Scott🌲

We were delighted to welcome members of Alnwick Young Farmers to A&J Scott for a tour of the sawmill.

It was a great opportunity to show the group around the site and give them an insight into our operations, from timber arriving at the mill through to the processes involved in producing our finished products.

A special thank you to Brian for taking the time to show everyone around and share his knowledge of the mill.

We’ll get it on somehow!

This massive Burr Oak was loaded on to our bolster trailer at Wooperton in 2013 with our hardwood Liebherr grab assisted by the yard JCB’s bucket.

Sold to The Mouseman, Robert Thompson of Kilburn it formed part of a 3-log load which was delivered to Walls of Ampleforth for sawing.

Geordie Nicholson and the late Billy Grieve can also be seen.
