Published last week, the UK Department for Transport's new Road Safety Strategy features ambitious goals, including dramatically reducing road deaths and serious injuries by 65% by 2035.
One element we are particularly pleased to see come out of the strategy is the increased focus on leveraging enhanced safety technologies, such as ADAS, more widely to reduce incidents and collisions.
This includes:
β
A Consultation on making up to 18 new safety technologies mandatory for certain vehicle categories
β
Collaborating with industry to maximise the safety benefits of ADAS technologies; such as seatbelt compliance detection, driver distraction detection, and intelligent speed assistance
β
Developing clear, accurate information about ADAS functionality and limitations in partnership with industry
With these new measures on the horizon, now is a great time for fleet operators to review their adoption of safety technologies across their vehicles.
Engaging early with these changes can help keep drivers and the public safer, reduce collision costs and get ahead of the curve with evolving regulations.
